Here’s a holiday surprise for you – another month of Marvel solicitations just arrived on Amazon! These books take us though the Amazon release date of March 28, which means these books will hit the direct market on March 14. I covered the January and February solicits last month.
I’ve broken out the books below. They don’t yet list their contents, so I’ve made a few educated guesses until we can fill in the final contents. If you pre-order with Amazon, please keep in mind that Amazon releases dates are two weeks later that Direct Market release dates.
- Marvel Masterworks
- Oversized Hardcover & Omnibus Collections
- Epic Collections
- Pre-Premiere TPB Era Material (through 1999)
- Premiere TPB Era Material Recollections (from 2000)
- All-New, All-Different Marvel Collections
- Other Releases
Please note: This post will not be updated with corrected dates, titles, or issue ranges for these titles. For the most up-to-date information, visit the accompanying collection guide pages.
Marvel Masterworks
There’s only one of these books released each month, so this big reveal is a guaranteed feature of each new month of solicits.
March: Marvel Masterworks: Daredevil Vol. 11 (264 pages)
by Steve Gerber (Author), Chris Claremont (Author), Gerry Conway (Author), Tony Isabella (Author), Bob Brown (Illustrator), Gene Colan (Illustrator), Don Heck (Illustrator), Sal Buscema (Illustrator)
Visit the Daredevil Guide. MMW Volume 10 ended with #107. Claremont writes #117, and Conway and Don Heck created #118. However, Tony Isabella was only on Daredevil for #119-123. Could we possibly see a 16-issue collection hitting #108-123? That would be pretty big for a traditional Masterwork volume, and #119 is Isabella plus a standalone story before a multi-issue arc, so #108-119 seems more likely.
Oversized Hardcover & Omnibus Collections
All-New, All-Different Avengers Vol. 1 (304 pages)
Likely contents: #1-12, Avengers #0 (All-New, All-Different story), and Free Comic Book Day 2015 (Avengers story).
Visit the Avengers & New Avengers Guide. This likely collects the contents of the first two Mark Waid TPBs.
Daredevil by Mark Waid Omnibus Vol. 1 (728 pages)
Likely contents: Daredevil (2011) #1-27 or 30, 10.1, Amazing Spider-Man #677, Avenging Spider-Man #6, Punisher (2010) #10, Indestructible Hulk #9-10
Visit the Daredevil Guide. The first two OHCs were 288 pages and 296 pages, so perhaps this dips one arc into the third, leaving the remainder of the third and the relaunched fourth and fifth volumes for a second edition.
Deadpool: The Adamantium Collection (784 pages)
by Rob Liefeld (Author), Fabian Nicieza (Author), Joe Kelly (Author), Christopher Priest (Author), Joe Madureira (Illustrator), Ed McGuinness (Illustrator), Bernard Chang (Illustrator), Jim Calafiore (Illustrator)
Visit the Deadpool Guide. Adamantium Collections are even-larger oversized books that collect a hodge-podge of fan-favorite issues from their title character. Given the creators, this will heavily overlap the Deadpool: Beginnings omnibus as well as his Classic omnibus by Joe Kelly.
Guardians of the Galaxy Classic by Jim Valentino Omnibus (984 pages)
Likely contents: Guardians of the Galaxy #1-29 & Annuals 1-2
Visit the Guardians of the Galaxy Guide. Wow, you have to dig pretty deep to omnibus a classic run that was neither on the Secret Ballot nor on my list of 50 additional runs that should head to omnibus. Marvel is really scraping the bottom of the barrel for Guardians content at this point, considering this future team has nothing to do with the movie and the modern guardians at the moment. Maybe they know something we don’t know.
Shang-Chi: Master of Kung-Fu Omnibus Vol. 3 (696 pages)
by Doug Moench (Author), Mike Zeck (Illustrator), Gene Day (Illustrator), Rick Hoberg (Illustrator)
Uncanny Inhumans Vol. 1 (280 pages)
Likely contents: #0-10 &Free Comic Book Day 2015 (Inhumans story)
Marvel seems pretty sure that if they keep treating Inhumans like a prestige series someone will begin to care.
Epic Collections
Daredevil Epic Collection: Brother, Take My Hand (Epic Vol. 3)
by Stan Lee (Author), Roy Thomas (Author), Gene Colan (Illustrator), Barry Windsor-Smith (Illustrator)
Visit the Daredevil Guide. The title and illustrators of this book reveal that is will certainly be the third Epic Collection rather than the second – “Brother Take My Hand” was issue #47, Lee departed the title with #53, BWS’s only Daredevil issues were #50-52, 83, and 236, and Roy Thomas wrote #51-71. It would be shocking to see a Volume 2 cover #22-53, so it’s more likely that this one covers something like #42-63 – which would directly follow the run covered by the Omnibus a month prior!
Excalibur Epic Collection: The Sword is Drawn (Epic Vol. 1 – 496 pages)
by Chris Claremont (Author), Alan Davis (Author), Michael Higgins (Author), Herb Trimpe (Illustrator), Ron Lim (Illustrator), Marshall Rogers (Illustrator), Arthur Adams (Illustrator), Erik Larsen (Illustrator)
Visit the Excalibur Guide. This is a bit too small to contain all of the first three Classic collections, so it must end somewhere between #12 and 20 OR include other material (likely including the tantalizingly never-reprinted story for MCP #31-38 due to the Larsen credit, which makes this a buy for me!).
New Mutants Epic Collection: Renewal (Epic Vol. 1 – 520 pages)
by Chris Claremont (Author), Bill Mantlo (Author), Bob McLeod (Illustrator), Sal Buscema (Illustrator), Paul Smith (Illustrator), Ron Frenz (Illustrator), John Buscema (Illustrator), Frank Miller (Illustrator)
Visit the New Mutants Guide. This is a bittersweet reveal – getting this material back into print is a good thing, but online fans were hoping for an omnibus – it placed #2 on this year’s secret ballot. Renewal is the name of Marvel Graphic Novel 4, and the inclusion of McLeod and the lack of Sienkiewicz on this illustrator list means it will be no more than New Mutants #1-17 & Uncanny X-Men #167. Plus, the Frank Miller credit indicates Karma’s debut in Marvel Team-Up (1972) #100
Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The Old Republic Vol. 2
Pre Premiere TPB Era Material (through 1999)
Captain America & The Falcon: Secret Empire
by Roy Thomas (Author), Tony Isabella (Author), Steve Englehart (Author), Mike Friedrich (Author), Sal Buscema (Illustrator)
Visit the Captain America Guide. This is likely a redress and expansion of Captain America by Steve Englehart, Vol. 1: Secret Empire to somehow tie into the current Captain America plot (or else it would simply be an Epic Collection).
Cloak and Dagger: Lost and Found
by Bill Mantlo (Author), Rick Leonardi (Illustrator), Terry Shoemaker (Illustrator), Marc Silvestri (Illustrator), Mike Mignola (Illustrator), Arthur Adams (Illustrator), Bret Blevins (Illustrator), June Brigman (Illustrator)
Visit the Cloak & Dagger Guide. More Cloak & Dagger! It looks like Marvel is really going to push to get all 49 of their original issues collected. The Brett Blevins and June Brigman credit’s are a good sign, as the drew issue #10 and 11, respectively, of Cloak & Dagger’s first ongoing series – currently uncollected!
Elektra by Peter Milligan, Larry Hama & Mike Deodato Jr.: The Complete Collection
Visit the Elektra Guide. This will cover the 19-issue 1996 Elektra series, plus it’s #-1 issue.
Wolverine vs. Deadpool
by Larry Hama (Author), Rob Liefeld (Author), Eric Stephenson (Author), Joe Kelly (Author), Adam Kubert (Illustrator), Fabio Laguna (Illustrator), Walter McDaniel (Illustrator), Ron Lim (Illustrator)
Wolverine vs. The Punisher
by Carl Potts (Author), Dan Abnett (Author), Andy Lanning (Author), Chris Golden (Author), Jim Lee (Illustrator), Gary Erskine (Illustrator), Hugh Haynes (Illustrator), Pat Lee (Illustrator)
Premiere TPB Era Material Recollections (from 2000)
Avengers: The Initiative – The Complete Collection Vol. 2
Visit the Young Avengers Guide. This is a welcome collection of an enjoyable series! Definitely worth reading … except, no Volume 1 has been solicited!
Avengers & X-Men: Axis (264 pages)
Visit Marvel Universe Events. This hot, steaming garbage pile of an event will still not be collected along with its Revolutions mini-series, so this is purely a copy of the OHC.
Deadpool Classic Vol. 17: Headcanon
by Duane Swierczynski (Author), Mike Benson (Author), Adam Glass (Author), Cullen Bunn (Author), Jason Pearson (Illustrator), Laurence Campbell (Illustrator), Ramon Rosanas (Illustrator), Nik Virella (Illustrator)
New Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis: The Complete Collection Vol. 3
Visit the New Avengers Guide. The interesting bit of this is Warren Ellis is listed as an author, which means it will include Civil War: The Initiative (2007) – #1.
Wolverine vs. the Marvel Universe
All-New, All-Different Marvel Collections
All-New Wolverine Vol. 3 – Visit the Wolverine Guide
The Astonishing Ant-Man Vol. 3
Daredevil: Back in Black Vol. 3: Work of Art – Visit the Daredevil Guide
Doctor Strange Vol. 3 hardcover – Visit the Doctor Strange Guide
Extraordinary X-Men Vol. 3 – Visit the Uncanny X-Men Guide
Gwenpool, The Unbelievable Vol. 2
