Welcome to a trial of a kind of post I haven’t written for years: a post covering Marvel Comics February 1 2023 releases! This list includes every comic and digital comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats.
For every new release, I’ll point you to the right guide, which will be updated to reflect the current series and issue.
I last attempted this sort of post five whole years ago. Time flies! Seriously, it feels like it was just a few months ago. At the time, I had several dozen fewer Marvel guides than I do today and I was more than a year behind on reading the entire Marvel Universe. Trying to point readers toward the right collection information for every issue was like trying to bale out a boat with a sieve. I needed to spend the time guide-building!
There are still many more Marvel guides left to build, but I have much better coverage than I did a half a decade ago. I’m going to experiment with bringing this post back this month as a way to catch up on everything that Marvel is offering – both for myself and for my 100+ Marvel reading guide pages.
Marvel Comics February 1 2023 Collected Editions
Vol. 1: The Man in the Ant Hill (2015 paperback, ISBN 978-0785198505 / digital / 2023 paperback, 978-1302950354)
See Guide to Ant-Man for this straight reprint of the existing Epic just in time for the Ant-Man movie.
Captain Mar-Vell Omnibus Vol. 1 (2023 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302948658 / digital)
See Guide to Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers for coverage of this series (though, a Mar-Vell guide may be coming…). This omnibus is a big deal, as the three color Masterworks that cover this material have been out of print for some time. It’s nice to see Marvel focusing on a classic hero without much current exposure.
Daredevil By Frank Miller & Klaus Janson Omnibus (2023 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302945534 / digital)
See Guide to Daredevil for this reprinting of the perennial one-and-done classic Daredevil ominbus.
Fantastic Four by Dan Slott, Vol. 3 (2023 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302945343 / digital)
See Guide to Fantastic Four for this hardcover recollection line, which continues to be one of the lines Marvel is reprinting most-aggressively. It’s almost as if they’re getting reading for a movie…
by Gerry Duggan, Vol. 2 (2023 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302945213/ digital)
See Guide to X-Men – The Age of Krakoa for this hardcover recollection line. This completes Duggan’s run in hardcover.
Miles Morales: The Avenging Avenger! (2023 digest-size paperback, ISBN / digital)
See Guide to Spider-Man, Miles Morales for this digest-size recollection of Miles’s post-Secret Wars Marvel-616 series.
Silver Surfer Epic Collection Volume 5: The Return of Thanos (2023 paperback, ISBN 978-1302948290 / digital)
See Guide to Silver Surfer for this new Epic Collection! This brings us past halfway point of Silver Surfer’s Epic line, with 8 books released and 6 still to go to cover his material through the end of his 1987 ongoing. Still missing are Volumes 2, 8, 10, 11, 12, & 14.
Star Wars: Doctor Aphra Omnibus Vol. 1 (2023 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302947941)
See Guide to Star Wars, Episode 4 – A New Hope or Star Wars Expanded Universe Comics for this new printing of the surprisingly hot 2021 Gillen omnibus.

Marvel Comics February 1 2023 Physical Comic Releases
The Avengers (2018) #65 – See Guide to Avengers Flagships (2010 – Present Day). The penultimate issues of Jason Aaron’s long-running series and part of the “Avengers Assemble” crossover with Avengers Forever.
Bloodline: Daughter of Blade (2023) #1 – See Guide to Blade. This series has an interesting provenance – it was due to be launched by Marvel years ago under a different writer and then shelved after being previewed. Now it’s retooled and back under the capable pen of Danny Lore.
Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty (2022) #9 – See Guide to Captain America. I am so excited to catch up on this book, because it’s by a trio of creators who have never disappointed me – writers Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing and artist Carmen Carnero. I am a massive fan of Carnero ever since seeing her art on X-Men Red! This title has a few more issues to go before it heads into a crossover with its sibling title, Symbol of Truth, starring Sam Wilson.
Dark Web: Finale (2023) #1 – See Guide to Spider-Man, Peter Parker (2018 – Present Day) or Guide to X-Men – The Age of Krakoa. It’s the finale of this rare Spider-Man/X-Men crossover focused on Ben Reilly & Madelyne Pryor
Demon Wars: Down in Flames (2023) #1 – See Guide to X-Men Limited Series. Peach Momoko continues her fantastical Japanese fairytale take on the Marvel Universe (and, the X-Men in particular).
Legion of X (2022) #10 – See Guide to Legion. I’m a whole year behind on the X-line, but this final issue with a killer cover by the outstanding Ben Harvey looks pretty badass. (I think I have a convention sketch from Harvey – I need to unearth it!) This one just moved up on my “catch-up pile” list.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2022) #3 – See Guide to Spider-Man, Miles Morales. I’m excited to check out this new Cody Ziglar Miles series! Ziglar was strong on the BEYOND! rotation of Amazing Spider-Man, and I’m ready for Miles to return to having a distinctive voice.
Moon Knight (2021) #20 – See Guide to Moon Knight. I’m only an arc behind on this Jed McKay Moon Knight series, and I am absolutely loving it! Think MacKay has found a way to combine Moon Knight’s supernatural history, his mid-00s brutality, and his 10s Mr. Knight investigative qualities.
Scarlet Witch (2023) #2 – See Guide to Scarlet Witch. I haven’t enjoyed Steve Orlando as an author for several years now, so I have a healthy skepticism of how he might do on Wanda. Hopefully he reigns in his typical wordiness to let art from Sara Pichelli breathe.
Silver Surfer: Ghost Light (2023) #1 – See Guide to Silver Surfer. It feels like an eternity since Silver Surfer has had anything major happen to him, especially since his last big series from Dan Slott was more slice-of-life than galaxy-changing and his Donny Cates / Tradd Moore book was delightfully. I’m curious to see where he is headed, especially with an appearance in the MCU on the horizon.
Star Wars: Sana Starros #1 – This is not yet placed in my Guide to Star Wars. Now that the current expanded universe comics have stretched into previously-untouched eras, I need to add some new pages to the guide!
Venom (2021) #16 – See Guide to Venom. I only got to the end of the first arc of this Al Ewing Venom series before my comic hiatus last year, and it was trending in an odd direction. From the summary of this issue, it sounds like Ewing has methodically revealed some twists since there, so I’m excited to catch up.
Wakanda (2022) #5 – See Guide to Black Panther. This Okoye issue concludes an anthology of the Wakandan extended cast, which I haven’t yet added to the guide (because it spans time, so I’m not yet sure where to place it!)
X-Force (2019) #37 – See Guide to X-Force. This issue’s solicit promises big things: “learn the truth about the man behind the mask who’s been plaguing X-FORCE since 2019’s issue #1!” I’ve got a solid year of X-Force to catch up on, but that’s a good reason to get underway!
Marvel Comics February 1 2023 Digital-First Comic Releases
These releases are exclusively available on the Marvel Unlimited app – you cannot access them from a web browser even if you have a subscription! They also haven’t been quick to be released in print – I’ve only noticed one series hit print format so far (the Hickman/Duggan-penned early run of X-Men Unlimited).
- Alligator Loki Infinity Comic (2022) #18 – See Guide to Loki
- Avengers Unlimited Infinity Comic (2022) #31 – See Guide to Avengers (2010 – present)
- Love Unlimited Infinity Comic (2022) #35 – I haven’t decided where this should be placed yet! (Any thoughts?)
- Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic (2022) #38 – I haven’t decided where this should be placed yet! There have been enough “Voices” books in the past few years that I’m considering giving them their own guide page.
- Spider-Verse Unlimited Infinity Comic (2022) #35 – See Guide to Spider-Man, Peter Parker (2018 – present)
- X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic (2021) #72 – See Guide t0 X-Men – The Age of Krakoa
