It’s the second new comic book day of the new year! This post covers Marvel Comics January 10 2024 releases. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel’s January 3 2024 releases.
This week in Marvel Comics: Hickman & Checchetto launch Ultimate Spider-Man, Zdarsky & Checchetto’s Devil’s Reign omnibus, and the Rise of the Powers of X (not drawn by Marco Checchetto)!
This list includes every comic and digital comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. For each new release, I’ll point you to the right guide within my Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics to find out how to collect each character in full – and, if a guide is linked from this post, that means it is updated through the present day!
Marvel Comics January 10 2024 Collected Editions
The Avengers by Jed MacKay, Vol. 1: The Impossible City
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302947699 / digital)
See Guide to Avengers Flagship Titles (2018-Present). This is the first collection of Jed MacKay’s Avengers relaunch. I’ve heard folks say this has been a bit slow-moving, but that’s often code for “I have no patience,” so I need to read this myself now that the entire first arc is complete!
Deadpool Epic Collection: Drowning Man (Epic Collection Vol. 3)
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302953324 / digital)
See Guide to Deadpool. Continuing Deadpool’s status as Marvel most perfectly-collected character, they are now re-collecting his original 1997 series in Epic Collection after it has already been completely covered in Classic and Omnibus format.
Devil’s Reign Omnibus
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302952921 / digital)
See Guide to Marvel Universe Events. A massive all-in-one collection of all of the tie-ins to the act break in Chip Zdarsky & Marco Checchetto’s Daredevil series. I don’t think any of these mini-series really add all that much to the main story in the event title, so if you’re not desperate to fill an oversize gap in your shelf you could simply pick up the trade paperback verison.
Doctor Strange Epic Collection: I, Dormammu (Epic Collection Vol. 2)
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302953157, digital)
See Guide to Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange was the rare Epic line that didn’t kick off with sequential releases of its earliest volumes interspersed with later volumes, probably due to the fact that Marvel had released a (slim) early omnibus around the same time. Now we’re finally getting the second Epic collection filled in.
Marvel-Verse: Spider-Man & Madame Web
(2024 digest-size paperback, ISBN 978-1302954581 / digital)
Do I need a Madame Web guide now? Anyway, here’s some Amazing Spider-Man issues starring Madame Web, in case you wanted to compare Sony’s new movie to the comics.
Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302946050 / digital)
See Guide to Moon Knight. This is the standard-sized paperback collection of this series, as opposed to a Treasury Edition out last year. I’ve loved the transformation of Moon Knight from fringe hero only known to the Wednesday Warrior faithful to a critical hit who can support an ongoing series and multiple mini-series at the same time. This is another of Marvel’s gritty short-story anthologies in black-and-white plus red, which is a great way to sample the character via stories by Jonathan Hickman, Chris Bachalo, Patch Zircher, Jimi Zub, Ann Nocenti, Christopher Cantwell, Nadia Shammas, and more.
Rogue & Gambit: Power Play
(2024 paperback, ISBN, 978-1302948061 / digital)
See Guide to X-Men – The Age of Krakoa. I read this series this week and unfortunately I can’t say that I recommend it. Despite a compelling wrapper to set this story into progress (via Destiny), the actual tale is flat with Rogue written blandly and Gambit written broadly out of character. The strong artwork doesn’t make up for the writing.

Marvel Comics January 10 2024 Physical Comic Releases
Blade (2023) #7 – See Guide to Blade. I have yet to catch up on this Bryan Hill series.
Captain Marvel (2023) #4 – See Guide to Captain Marvel – Carol Danvers. I’m waiting for this first arc from Alyssa Wong to complete to check out this new ongoing!
Daredevil: Gang War (2023) #2 – See Guide to Elektra, because this Gang War tie-in actually stars Elektra as Daredevil, not Matt Murdock! Sneaky Marvel! I’m sure no one felt that they got bait-and-switched by that.
Giant-Size Spider-Man (2024) #1 – See Guide to Spider-Man – Miles Morales. This is part of Marvel’s downright confusing line of random Giant-Size issues celebrating 50 years of their “Giant-Size” brand, but it’s still written by regular series author Cody Ziglar and fits in with its continuity.
Luke Cage: Gang War (2023) #3 – See Guide to Luke Cage – Power Man. I just caught up on this Rodney Barnes series, and as a fans of Barnes from his superb Killadelphia I’m surprised at how low-key he is keeping the political elements of having the mayor of New York don a costume to fight crime. Not sure if he is toning it down for a superhero book or if the back half of this series will include a big twist. That said, Barnes definitely gets how to voice Luke, and I wouldn’t mind seeing another series from him when Gang War is over.
Miguel O’Hara: Spider-Man 2099 (2024) #2 – See Guide to Spider-Man 2099. The weekly dump… err, I mean… weekly release of this Steve Orlando series continues.
Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2023) #15 – See Guide to Spider-Man – Miles Morales. Yes, Marvel really has two Miles issues by Cody Ziglar out in the same week. No, it doesn’t make any sense at all. Honestly, is it any wonder Marvel is having problems in the Direct Market right now? I’m angry and frustrated just reading their solicits! Anyhow, let’s not take out my frustrations with Marvel on what is shaping up to be my favorite Miles Morales title of all time based what I’ve read so far. This wraps up Miles’s participation in the Gang War event.
Rise of the Powers of X (2024) #1 – See Guide to X-Men – The Age of Krakoa. We’re in the endgame now, with Kieron Gillen’s swan song on his X-Men run kicking off. This braids together with Duggan’s “Fall” series similarly to how Hickman kicked off the era with House and Powers.
The Sensational She-Hulk (2023) #4 – See Guide to She-Hulk – Jennifer Walters. I feared this was the end of Rainbow Rowell’s run on She-Hulk, but it looks like there are solicits for issue five and beyond!
The Sentry (2023) #2 – See Guide to Sentry. Sentry is back with a new limited series after a few years mostly in obscurity. While the big story here is that Marvel is clearly getting some material out ahead of his impending appearance in the MCU, the story I’m more interested in is that this is the first print series from Jason Loo – who won the attention of Marvel editorial with his web comics about X-Men and has turned in several charming stories in the X-Men Unlimited Digital Comic! I’m interested to see how his typically-humorous approach translates to The Sentry, typical a very grim character in his present day stories.
Spider-Gwen: Smash (2023) #2 – See Guide to Spider-Gwen – Ghost Spider. Again, Marvel is up to some shenanigans here: This Melissa Flores mini-series kicked off just four months after a previous mini-series, ends in the same month a Giant-Size issue releases (also by Flores), and then immediately continues to another Spider-Gwen series a month later by Stephanie Phillips. WHY IS THAT NOT ALL A SINGLE SPIDER-GWEN SERIES, MARVEL!? Anyhow, this is an Earth-65 adventure focused on Gwen’s band and featuring an alternate version of Dazzler.
Star Wars (2020) #42 – See Guide to Star Wars Expanded Universe
Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 (2023) #8 – See Guide to Star Wars Expanded Universe
Thunderbolts (2023) #2 – See Guide to Thunderbolts & Dark Avengers. I haven’t seen any buzz on this Lanzing/Kelly series anchored by Winter Soldier. It feels like fans have cooled on these authors significantly after their poorly-received Guardians of the Galaxy run last year, which I’ve still yet to catch up on.
Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #1 – See Guide to Marvel Ultimate Universe. OH BOY. This is a big one, y’all. THE Marco Checchetto pairs with THE Jonathan Hickman to introduce a new middle-aged version of Peter Parker as Spider-Man into Hickman’s retooled Ultimate Universe, which is a modern world without heroes. What will Hickman’s writing look like on such a personal and quippy hero, compared to his epic team books? Let’s not forget, Hickman wrote a superb Spidey back in his run on Fantastic Four. I’ll be picking this up every month!
Wolverine (2020) #41 – See Guide to Wolverine – Logan. The Sabretooth War begins, with Victor LaValle co-writing alongside Ben Percy!
