My first kiss was at the bottom of a flight of stairs that reminded me of my childhood house. We had old creaky stairs and wide wooden molding on the doors and the doors were heavy so you could give them a good slam. And that’s were we kissed. In a way it makes perfect sense to me, because it was the only place i was comfortable with the only person i was comfortable with. Sadly, that was only a one-kiss engagement (okay, maybe two), and not a whole ton of things have made perfect sense since then. A thing here and there makes limited amount of sense, or plausible sense, or i want it to make sense, or i just suspend my disbelief. But i just want it to make sense.
By the way, in the paragraph i decided what’s going to be in the after-party Trio recording, so make sure you stick around to see how well i play guitar after being awake for 30 straight hours. Should be interesting.
Oh, and, just to prove that i’m really not getting any more awake as this goes on but am still functioning on higher levels of logic, i somehow managed to sing “when a boy loves a boy and a girl loves a girl” in the “La Isla Bonita.” Hah! Especially considering who i was recording it for. Hah!
There’s some outstanding requests for DeathCabForCutie and Garbage, but i think i’m justifiably a little fried right now. And, i just barely decided what the last beeside will be. Lemme catch my breath for a minute.
BTW, the coffee had about as much caffeine in it as orange juice. Also, when the hell am i going to learn how to spell that word? At least i could be consistent about it. Bah! Back to songing.
Some notes on the requests. That’s the order i recorded them in, but not that they were asked for. I needed lyrics for 1-3, chords for 2-3, and lots of righteous misplaced gender angst for 4. I kept the first complete take of each song, and the only one with a significant false start was Rabi’s. I did “Outta Me” first because i’ve recorded it before and i know i can ad-lib all over the place. I thought Yucca’s would be very hard but it was simple because i spent a long time transcribing it last summer so that it would make sense on such an occasion. I was planning to do “La Isla” anyway, but had been putting off transcribing the chords. Please note that i incorporate the guitar solo into my strumming, because i care that much about solo acoustic Madonna covers (of which we’ve seen four, so far). I did invert the instrumental bit and then didn’t sing to it like Madonna does; however, i pounded on my guitar quite a bit like she did at the concert to make up for it. A year ago today i couldn’t sing “Not a Pretty Girl” and play it at the same time, and now it’s one of the easiest Ani songs for me to cover except for that it’s always using all four of my fingers and i tend to abuse my guitar a lot when i play it. Enjoy, ladies and gents.
