Rock on!!!
Ok, err… backing up a step, i’ve decided to finally take the plunge and try to organize a weblog / performance area for songwriters on the internet. I’ve always wanted to do something like this, but so far i’ve been the only writer i’ve ever seen who primarily publishes on the ‘net (other than on MP3.com). However, Jehan and AndreTorrez (both linked on the sidebar, you lazy bum) have both expressed interest in the project, and having two great essayist/designers on board feels really damned good. So, if you or a friend might be interested, the place to look is http://uprush.org/DIY/. I don’t have any plans on starting before December, so there’s plenty of time to ask me questions and consider. But, ideally i’d love to have five or more active internet musicians who just randomly log about anything, but then once a week submit an audio file of a new performance. Of course, this supposes that people have recording facilities of some sort at their disposal, but all you really need is a 4-track or a mic on your computer. After a few weeks of random songs, we might actually attempt some songwriting challenges (wow, is this starting to sound like the Making the Band version of SurvivorBlog?). So, stay tuned, and i’ll keep y’all updated!
my music
No more cheddar ramen, ever. I’ve been doing some pretty shitty sounding trios, and it’s starting to bother me. It makes me seem like some self-important un-talented fuck who is pretentious enough to think that people care to listen to him sing out of key. But i’m not, really. It’s just that without a dorm full of friends to play a few songs for every week i am rapidly leaving my guitar on the sidelines, and this allows me to do a little performance. Furthermore, i can’t play the same song all the time, because it would get boring, so it’s incentive for me to keep working on new songs that i would typically ditch in favour of another repetition of “Crashing.” And, finally, keep in mind that i’m just recording through the teeny mic in my computer, and that i’m doing a live take with no stops or pickups. You might point out that doing a concert is at least that hard, but for me playing in front of people is the most comforting thing in the world. Being alone in this room with the computer… now that’s intimidating.
Jehan: You write songs as well?? Do you have any audio of those early morning session at the computer’s mic? Cause, that’s how i do things over here :)
I want to find a whole gaggle of songwriting bloggers and start up a webring. Anyone else interested?
So, okay, in the most passive agressive move of all, i can safely flirt with anyone i want from my actual life from the saftey of my blogger because i know that none of them ever go to my website without a lot of begging and pleading involved. But, why waste time flirting with someone who you’ve been flirting with for over a year, who plain isn’t interested, and who you want to be friends with anyway? I’m not sure… we’ve had some moments, and i am the type to just take a moment and twist it around in my head and turn it into us getting married and moving to England. I shouldn’t have to start all over finding someone new to get to like…
