Crushing Comics – Guide to Reading & Collecting Marvel Comics

Updated November 11, 2025! You shouldn’t have to be a comic book expert to enjoy reading Marvel Comics! Find every Marvel issue from all of their major titles and characters in the right reading order in this Marvel Comics Guide, including how they’ve been collected in physical and digital format – plus, suggestions for the best places to start.

My dozens of guides to major titles – including every X-Men and Avengers team – will always be freely available for all visitors. New guides debut exclusively to Patrons of Crushing Krisis & Crushing Comics before being released to the general public. Join for less than the cost of one comic per month to help support the costs of maintaining this site!

I’ve teased some of my upcoming guides with the MARVEL logo over a grayed-out image, but I’m always happy to hear what you’re excited to see in the future!

Patreons make this page possible! Every month, Patrons of Crushing Krisis help to fund its hosting, helper applications, video production, and more! Every dollar contributed by Patrons goes directly to helping sustain and grow this site.

    YOU ARE A GOD!!!

Thank you so much for this site. Over the years I keep thinking, ‘Can he keep this going?’…or…’Maybe the craziness of the Marvel universe has finally caught up with him’…but no. You continually provide a beautiful and understandable way to read or collect comics. Bless you, man. I’m serious, dude. From one comic lover to another. Bless you.

Wow, Lance, thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement. Honestly, I spend a lot of time thinking the craziness of the Marvel Universe has caught up to me, too, but then I always think of a way to squeeze past it :)

This is a great guide, and I have been looking for one like this forever! I am so grateful for it, and it is now my go-to guide. However, I do need to ask, there are some characters that are not as major as the ones listed above, for example Scarlet Witch, or characters who are part of a group, like Rocket Raccoon, who carry their own series. Where would I find out when to read those so that they fit in chronological order with the rest of the series?

Madeline, I’m so happy this guide is answering your questions!

All of Rocket’s series (and most of his appearances) are in the Guardians guide, along with all of the other Guardians series. Scarlet Witch’s series is not covered by a guide, and she has been one of the top fan requests after Thanos and Magneto, both of whom I’ve addressed in the last few months.

My end-goal for Crushing Comics is absolutely for it to cover every Marvel character who have had their own series. I’ve discovered there are are diminishing returns of people interested in those supporting character solo guides, despite them taking about the same amount of work to create as one for a more popular character. Thus, in 2017 I’m very focused on getting all DC’s essential heroes covered with guides before attacking more of the remaining Marvel characters without series.

This site is a #1 resource for post floppy collecting. Do you have plans on updating some of the guides with newer trades and Omni? It seems Marvel has gone crazy printing new epics and omnibus that are filling in gaps. Keep up the great work!

I like to think of my updating process as a very slow trolley that makes it way around a track that includes all of the various guides – and there are over a 100 of them! Hopefully I’ll be making it to some of them that are in need of some attention this quarter.

I continue to sing praise to all my friends, who were reading during the Bronze Age; and then life got in he way—and I found this amazing site, which has helped me navigate the last 30 years I missed and decide which stories to read. I had to keep notes since I was practically body-sliding back and forth with all X-men and Avenger series. Thanks for being my roadmap back into my childhood.

Blade and also Dracula don’t show up on the character list, I didn’t realise they were on here until I searched for something else and they showed up on the search results
