What I Tweeted, 2011-04-11 Edition

April 10, 2011 by krisis

My tweets of the last week:

  • Good morning, Twitter friends. I am recovered for a weekend of rock & lawn care, and quite looking forward to a day of communications. You? #
  • @amanda_nan There goes all semblance of productivity in my home life ;) in reply to amanda_nan #
  • A blog post in which I open a window into my mindset when @arcati81 & I hit a snag in our Saturday night rock gig: http://bit.ly/gPjdKu #
  • I'm always suspect of how writers @ Engadg or HuffPo feel when a giant like AOL snaps up their site. Now I have a hint: http://bit.ly/i7cX5e #
  • Philly blog @keypulp launches today from the ashes of Phillyist: Does all-at-once viewing help or harms TV shows? http://bit.ly/gAQC2m #
  • I think it's a good thing appointment TV went the way of a dinosaur. Overall impact of a show matters more now- better planning, longer arcs #
  • @radiocolin There will always be people making an appointment, but networks take DVR, streaming, and DVDs into account more than before. in reply to radiocolin #
  • @therealdesh We're definitely mainliners – might watch a season of a show in a weekend and then not watch any other TV for three months. in reply to therealdesh #
  • I'm biased, as TV has been dead to me since 2004. Make time in my day for a time-specific, inessential broadcast message? Seriously? … Why? #
  • @therealdesh Common point is that we're in a generation that is increasingly consuming TV when we have time for it, not when it occurs. in reply to therealdesh #
  • Not to say I haven't watched awesome TV shows in the past 7yrs. I just haven't watched them on TV (& I've known in advance to skip clunkers) #
  • @jimshreds The entire concept seems fictional to me. Even before I gave up live TV I hadn't done "appointment" since the 90s. in reply to jimshreds #
  • @therealdesh I know football fans who DVR games, start watching the 1p @ 5p while skipping stoppages, & catch up by the end of the live game in reply to therealdesh #
  • Last thought for now: interested in how this leads to multi-stream consumption of stories, where the new weekly narrative is only one stream #
  • @therealdesh Ahh, thanks for putting a term to it :) in reply to therealdesh #
  • @Krochmal Indeed. I don't like TV in a vacuum any more. I want to watch while I read the epi guide, see fan reactions, read old recaps, etc. in reply to Krochmal #
  • @patrickbjohnson I'm pretty down on comedies lately, but that's getting mentioned to me a lot. Will check it out on the off-season. in reply to patrickbjohnson #
  • @Krochmal But it's not just TV that went social/non-real-time. We consume movie casting, spoilers, footage reviews before we see a trailer! in reply to Krochmal #
  • Thinking of doing a video Q&A with the band at rehearsal tonight. Any juicy questions out there for us to answer and post? #
  • @patrickbjohnson Sweet; Netflix just added a slew of new TV. We just watched S1 of Dirt and loved it – shame S2 was weak sauce by comparison in reply to patrickbjohnson #
  • @amanda_nan Agreed. On the fence after the 1st trailer when it was going to be "insert hero here" earthbound stuff but I love the space vibe in reply to amanda_nan #
  • @RavenousRaven Agreed! I used to work out variations in verse melodies by skipping one of my buses on the way home. Also: elevator rides. in reply to RavenousRaven #
  • @paullucci That's so cool! Do you know who your guests will be? in reply to paullucci #
  • Tonight I spent 2hrs on band web stuff, 2hrs in band rehearsal, & 3hrs compiling band lead sheets. It really IS a full time job. I'm wiped! #
  • Good morning! I am trying to have a day full of mindfullness & calm, seeing as those things have been missing from my morning thus far. You? #
  • @Not_Pele I see how it is: Blog reality edit is okay when I make you out as a peerless MacGyver and me out as a damsel in distress :) in reply to Not_Pele #
  • I want to go to yoga so badly, but I have too many plates spinning right now. Maybe I'll throw down my mat & do some warriors between mtgs. #
  • ThunderCats, Ho! RT @KeyPulp Our @jobu215 is giddy about @CartoonNetwork running a new ThunderCats series this summer. http://bit.ly/g1VyCB #
  • @NewPlasticChef That blows. I hate how much of a black box guitar repair can be. Found an AMAZING guy for basses @ Todaro's in Lansdowne. in reply to NewPlasticChef #
  • @Not_Pele I don't know, it was a little reality-enhanced. Also, I feel like I should go back to add a footnote about cookies. in reply to Not_Pele #
  • @NewPlasticChef Oo, I must visit @prymaxevintage next time we're in NNJ! I'm becoming much more of a gearhead now that I have studio space. in reply to NewPlasticChef #
  • @NewPlasticChef PS: I am such a SansAmp addict, it's not even funny. I use my bass pedal for guitar as well to thicken things up. in reply to NewPlasticChef #
  • @JettSuperior I don't know if @Not_Pele can still be called a nerd with her wide menu of design, installation, and demolition services. in reply to JettSuperior #
  • @theoreticalgirl I always go back to: how many things did they try the venom on before they figured that out? Like, did they try eye drops? in reply to theoreticalgirl #
  • @theoreticalgirl WHAT IF IT IS REALLY GOOD FOR PINK EYE? in reply to theoreticalgirl #
  • @NewPlasticChef Mm, must check that out. I've only graduated from acoustic (and onto bass) in the past half year, so this world is new to me in reply to NewPlasticChef #
  • Remote connection down. Laptop dying. Seat on train seems to be dead already. Trying to maintain calm I was attempting to conjure this AM. #
  • Nothing like getting my fingerprints taken for a criminal background check to really spice up my stressful Tuesday ;) #
  • Sweet! – bandmates booked two gigs while I was at work today! More electrified Arcati Crisis on 5/4 @ The Fire, & @filmstarband in late June #
  • This means I'm still on-pace for my gig-a-month goal for 2011! I need to find a solo acoustic show, though – my April lead fell through :( #
  • @Jenniferalyse If you know a good pop/rock band locally we need one more for the bill on 5/4. Already asked @jayvert, but he's busy :( in reply to Jenniferalyse #
  • @Jenniferalyse But def pass along the LA band. I know so many people playing gigs, maybe they'll be a good fit w/one. in reply to Jenniferalyse #
  • Vintage bass came back a week late with uggo new knobs I didn't ask for and the same buzzing it had to begin with. Now I have to be wrath-y. #
  • For the record, the bass didn't go to my fav luthier who calls me to consult. Asked for a call back, got nadda, AND unexpected changes. #
  • Mostly just annoyed at myself for getting my hopes up. Honestly, not worth being frustrated over. I have another bass to play; life goes on. #
  • @msjenniewalker I've been hearing that from many local band friends. I use it to link to my booking email & website; otherwise, no traction. in reply to msjenniewalker #
  • Good morning! I'm listening to "Gimme Shelter" & caught me checking myself out in a El window, so today is cool so far. Are you rocking too? #
  • @platypusjones @eedawson It's a little dire for an outlook on a new day, but seemed appropriate for the quality of the El audience this AM. in reply to platypusjones #
  • @UrbanMamahood @msjenniewalker It just makes me laugh at all the bands who put their MySpace on the back of CDs instead of their website. in reply to UrbanMamahood #
  • Received the itinerary for a 9+ hour bachelor party I am attending on Friday. I won't lie, I'm a little terrified by the prospect. #
  • Keep in mind, my bachelor party was an 80s Prom, complete w/decorations, DJ, & photographer… so I'm not really prepared for the typical kind #
  • @RobIsEvil That's my main worry – with a few exceptions I haven't had more than a drink or two since… um… a long time ago. in reply to RobIsEvil #
  • @RobIsEvil @Not_Pele haha, yes, you two have it covered. I think in 9hrs I can treat it as two separate drinking events, w/dinner between. in reply to RobIsEvil #
  • @joeross Agreed; the time I almost went to one previously the idea of it made me physically ill. This will be once-a-lifetime cc @amanda_nan in reply to joeross #
  • Juliana Hatfield crowdsources funds for new LP, reaches initial goal in <24hrs: http://bit.ly/g2H5cG -definitely an artist w/engaged fanbase #
  • Do you think bands should leave @kickstarter to finer arts & pay dues (& LPs) the old-fashioned way? @philebrity does: http://bit.ly/hx9b4A #
  • @mpomy Yep. :) in reply to mpomy #
  • @alexcmurphy To my surprise, I managed to have a semi-productive conversation in the comments section. in reply to alexcmurphy #
  • Flash Poll! Early Janet song most screaming for an updated rock cover: Miss You Much, Love Will Never Do, That's the Way Love Goes, other? #
  • @platypusjones Black Cat is its own updated rock cover. Disqualified. in reply to platypusjones #
  • @platypusjones I suppose, but there's no fun in updating the arrangement – it's all there, it just needs fresh production. in reply to platypusjones #
  • I'm supposed to make my pick for @filmstarband's 1st ever cover tonight, and I feel the need to skew r&b since none of the rest of them will #
  • @mommysfabulous haha, if I had five more characters that was my next suggestion :) in reply to mommysfabulous #
  • @jamiemontague I was thinking that too. I don't think it get covered a lot, but it doesn't really fit as well for the band I have in mind :) in reply to jamiemontague #
  • How many times in one morning commute can one depart and return to one's home before it's clear the day is out to get you? Would you say 3? #
  • @toofeets @melissa_shae Filmstar didn't bit on the Janet (but I did sneak through some classic R&B). Need to cover Ms. J on my own :) in reply to toofeets #
  • @amanda_nan Seriously, I may never leave the house if they keep this up w/good tv shows. Is original ST going to be the remasters? in reply to amanda_nan #
  • @schmidtultra Wait, what? You just bought it? I am so confused. in reply to schmidtultra #
  • @mikeyil STREAMING HD TOS. I seriously might not leave the house for entire week. in reply to mikeyil #
  • @drawonthewalls OMG, we could totally do it at Dobb's open mic or something :) in reply to drawonthewalls #
  • @mikeyil Are you going to watch time travel episodes chronologically instead of sequentially? That would be HOTT. in reply to mikeyil #
  • @drawonthewalls So soon I will have my license and all these wacky side projects will begin to become a reality. in reply to drawonthewalls #
  • @Cecilyk More rock to come, including Filmstar playing a Sugartown! We'll catch you eventually ;) in reply to Cecilyk #
  • @Not_Pele There's not that many characters that jump around times, I was more meaning like watching the DS9 Tribble Epi during TOS @mikeyil in reply to Not_Pele #
  • @drawonthewalls I almost got the band to pick "Golden Years" as our cover, but @not_pele doesn't like that song :(… in reply to drawonthewalls #
  • @drawonthewalls I have a really cool arrangement of Life on Mars for 2guitars to handle all of the diminished stuff, I should send it to you in reply to drawonthewalls #
  • @drawonthewalls PS: Did you know there are out of print British full score books for Hunky Dory, Ziggy, and Aladin? (all of which I own :) in reply to drawonthewalls #
  • @mikeyil Indeed, that was my implication :) @not_pele in reply to mikeyil #
  • Eventually I will begin to follow a maxim I set for myself many years ago: all message boards are invariably a waste time and make me angry. #
  • @PurpleCar I'm always like, "neat, people with a common interest." And then it implodes in a ball of fire, even if I know the people in RL. in reply to PurpleCar #
  • @drawonthewalls I payed soooo much for the Ziggy book, I think it was more than I ever spent on textbook. in reply to drawonthewalls #
  • @drawonthewalls But, hello, COMPLETE Mick Ronson solo on Moonage Daydream in sheet music. And string sections. Come on. in reply to drawonthewalls #
  • Managed to keep my city stamina up long enough to install myself @ Chris's Jazz Cafe to see Alexandra Day's CD release show. I adore her! #
  • Awww, and I'm on the guest list because I was the 1st person to pre-order her CD. I think this development deserves a fine glass of wine. #
  • "Are you tired?…No? Good, because I'm going to play a lullabye now, and my shit is effective. You better order some coffee."-Alexandra Day #
  • @StarrGazr Ruined more than one set of headphones that way. Hang in, enjoy the music ;) in reply to StarrGazr #
  • What is the allure of naming songs "Sunday Morning"? It must be in the top 20 most common songs names. I have so many! What's your favorite? #
  • Good morning! @not_pele told me I look like Bradley Cooper in The Hangover. Unsure if there is a better compliment I could've rec'd pre-9am. #
  • @paullucci How was the show? Franco! in reply to paullucci #
  • @amanda_nan Too remedial for you? in reply to amanda_nan #
  • @amanda_nan It's hard to get good content from an organized SM conference, they tend to lowball. That's why I like #140 (come w/me!) & camps in reply to amanda_nan #
  • @amanda_nan Yes, & early-bird pricing. Will forward you the email. If you come w/ I'd totally split a hotel in town so we can go out late ;) in reply to amanda_nan #
  • A peek at my glam look for the day; @melgreiner said I should be carrying a guitar case down an airport runway. http://twitpic.com/4ib0dx #
  • @Not_Pele That is an EVEN BETTER compliment. Not sure you can do much better for a pre-noon ego boost. cc/ @melgreiner in reply to Not_Pele #
  • @smcphilly Guys, could we possibly get Tweets w/the upcoming dates, too? The FB Updates are totally lost in the wash of concert invites :) in reply to smcphilly #
  • @amanda_nan RT @jeffpulver Upcoming #140conf NYC "Early Bird" discounts ends Apr 29th. http://nyc.140conf.com #
  • @SarahRobinson Haha, I was just realizing the hair is cut off! I need to learn to hold my hand steady at a greater angle from my body :) in reply to SarahRobinson #
  • @TableFor2Half Isn't @dreamhost the best?! They have never left me in a lurch, even at midnight on a Sunday. in reply to TableFor2Half #
  • It's been so fun compiling a playlist for @IBXRun10 from our runners' suggestions! Awesome to have a reason to write about music for work :) #
  • @smcphilly Date saved for 5/18! Not sure about April – I have a show that week, so I might be rehearsing during SMC ;( in reply to smcphilly #
  • Have you heard my music lately? Here's a quick fix – a 1-minute video of my "Glam" from our first plugged-in show: http://on.fb.me/gSrEAZ #
  • @filmstarband You've heard of @enjyn because I sometimes wear their t-shirt around the house – though, clearly not enough :) cc/ @bglusman in reply to filmstarband #
  • Student assembles life-size Barbie for eating-disorder awareness; "she'd walk on all fours due to her proportions." – http://huff.to/hGNW24 #
  • @JettSuperior Clearly you must think up sentences with several "chi" sounds and then horribly mispronounce them to see if she notices. in reply to JettSuperior #
  • @JettSuperior "I always SHOOde my SHOOld when SHOO eats SHOOcken for lunSHOO and dinner. SHOODdren these days!" in reply to JettSuperior #
  • @MakedaTaylor I think this is a shark-jumping moment about how broken the AI audience is. They just can't pick winners, no matter the field. in reply to MakedaTaylor #
  • I wonder if @WanamakerOrgan ever considered throwing a benefit with local rock bands paired with an organist. I think that would be AWESOME. #
  • RT @MakedaTaylor What Rebecca Black can teach you about music contracts http://bit.ly/hzALmt – Your 15 minutes are up! Read the fine print #
  • Do you need a label to help win internet infamy? Rebecca Black got fast-famous, but any profit is tied up in her (shady-sounding) contract. #
  • Received a palette from FedEx with the final physical component to a project I've been working on since September! Nice surprise on a Friday #
  • Argh, "pallet," "palette," & "palate" are my worst homophones. It doesn't matter how many times I correct myself, I always get them wrong. #
  • @FedexLina The FedEx driver went WAY above and beyond: came up to the 38th floor, walked around w/the pallet to find an empty spot. Amazing! in reply to FedexLina #
  • @melissa_shae @SmashleyDubs @ryandaniel @AllThingsGwen Don't make me cry at this Bachelor party. l've already threatened to sing Lady Gaga. in reply to melissa_shae #
  • I survived my first ever bachelor party. I used to hate those "boys' club" situations, but I'm a lot more self-confident now. Big difference #
  • Dreamed a rather excellent concept for tmy next @NaNoWriMo novel, which means I should probably wrap up my revision/extension of last year's #
