We are now one week into NaBloPoMo, and the attrition has begun. I’ve only been through the #s and the As, and already many bloggers have given up, or have resorted to posting about how they have nothing to post.
With some people dying on the vine, it makes it all the more enjoyable to find good reads via the alphabetical participants list, as well as through Lane’s now-infamous Randomizer.
One of the foremost of interesting reads is actually Lane herself: After getting her BFA in Photography Lane up and moved to New Zealand!?! Anyone who undertakes such a massive relocation gets major respect from this homebound packrat – including those who move from Singapore to NZ, shipping all worldy possession via cargo carrier. Also in the (re)location category A Life in the South of France, which reminded me of the travelogue novel A Year In Provence, which i never realized was by the same author as Where Did I Come From, which in turn leads to a whole other mom anecdote i’ll have to tell later this month. Back to the topic at hand, 26.2 Miles vs. Naomi – about a marathoner who moved to Senegal. Naomi has popped up multiple times via the Randomizer and I always stop to read her – definitely worth a visit.
Closer to home, 1,000 Times No is a new Philly Blogger who writes about quintessentially local topics like Peanut Chews. No Assembly Required is partially on the topic of unschooling, which is sortof homeschooling minus all the artificial structure of school. It’s a topic i am highly interested in and could potentially one day inflict on my eventual hypothetical children. Agent of Distraction is a synaesthetic, – a condition where two or more bodily senses are coupled. For her it means that certain words evoke an almost tangible sense of color. Because i have an encyclopaedic memory for Rolling Stone feature articles, i know that John Mayer experiences a similar synesthesia.
To re-draw your attention to another previously linked blogger, i am madly in love with reading Snippy – she doesn’t have a theme or a gimmick, she’s just an engagingly humorous writer. Imagine, blogs worth reading just because they’re worth reading! Also falling into that category: the wry Adventures of a Word Nerd, the charming Incredible Megs, and the slice-of-life A Page of Woe Absolved.
However, i think my favorite blog of the As is A Girl and a Boy, which largely photologs daily experiences with impossibly crisp and colorful pictures.
The #s and As get sort of a bum rap since i’m hitting them so early in the month, and am only interested in their NaBloPoMo posts. One thing i discovered is that a lot of bloggers are also knitters (cool!) and voters (AWESOME!). If i make it through about 1,800 other blogs before the thirtieth i’ll swing back around to give them another read. Writing Aspirations does me one better and is organizing reviews of entire letters! Perhaps i’ll contribute one for a letters a little less robust than A.
