NaBloPoMo Round-Up #7: I, J, & K Keep Me Company

November 24, 2006 by krisis

We awoke and departed from NJ at 4:15am so that Elise would have ample time to catch her flight to San Francisco, leaving me here, cold and alone for a week. The upshot is that my Thanksgiving lasted until seven this morning, and that I slept for the better part of the day,

What better activity to kick off a week of being cold and alone than working on my NaBloPoMo reviews? Grab your leftover sandwich, kids, (or, if you’re me, your favorite bottomless pail of cookie dough) cause it’s time for I, J, and K.

On the whole this trio of letters was a little underpowered when it came to interesting posts, though there were certainly a lot of interesting people. I even took care to scroll past the actual Turkey-posts themselves just in-case the group was heavily impacted by T-Give tryptophan overdose.

Also, it seems as if T-Give preparations took a heavy toll on participation rates, with a lot of bloggers trailing off into nothingness on Sunday or Monday of this week.

Not every I blog sucked. There are the simple charms of Incredible Megs, who i have been reading regularly. Similarly, i found Inside Voice to be easily consumable. In Palinode’s Palace is literate and inviting, offering stories and sketches from his life. In the Gutter kept me reading all the way down her index, mostly due to this amusing prank call fielded by here mother.

In a Minute Ago shares a stitched photograph. Sortof. You have to see it to know what i mean. In My House posted photos and recipes of her T-Give dinner (i also enjoyed the food-pics from Kitchen Wench). Indescisive Peach posts on why she didn’t enjoy Borat, concluding with,

“We can speculate that these are the modern coliseums, sans lions and Christians … We can argue that this is intrinsic to our nature, but somehow I feel that it is gnawing at the strands of some sort of evolution”

I haven’t seen the movie, but just from the marketing campaign this is my feeling exactly. Isoglossia offers a meandering post on getting a haircut, which happens to be one of my favorite topics for meandering posts.

Jabbering In My Jammies posts an utterly heart- wrenching/warming story about the circumstances surrounding the birth of her son. Also, she is haunted by a similar inner-OCD-beast to my own resident OCD-Godzilla.

Jacob’s Journey documents a parent’s ongoing efforts to enhance the life of her autistic son. Her entries are not short, or pithy, they’re important. Read about a recent RDI workshop and its important lessons, or incorporating siblings into daily routines. Awesome stuff.

I really enjoyed Jayesel and her soothing pink layout. Read as she struggles with whether taking two Sudafed makes her a bad mom-to-be. Jill Writes and Jesirose are both interesting women who i suspect i’ll enjoy weekly once NaBloPoMo is over.

The Ks yielded few reads, which is partially my own fault for not being the right demographic for ground-zero for knitting blogs.

Kirstination is one of those special overly ambitious people that warms my heart. She isn’t just posting for thirty days, she’s writing 30 lists of 30 things. Here one list, just for Meg, the recruiter in my life: How Not to Get a Job.

botticelli_meOh, KristyK… i too perform emergency surgery on my own person utilizing sharp household objects, but i don’t usually post photographic evidence. In fact, today i’ve been doing self-acupuncture on my left ear. But, that’s another story entirely.

Kindle, aside from being a blog, is one of my favorite words. She provided me with the link to create the picture that’s staring at this paragraph.

Kevin Smokler posts lots of interesting media links, including this one about Mary Poppins, and shares my aversion to the name Gore Vidal. Kikipotamus is narrating through her life in series of dense, evocative posts, including her English-for-Farsi tutoring trade off that, from the foreshadowing at the end of the post, was maybe more than she let on.

While Elise isn’t here i can now spend the entire night singing loud rock music. As far as i can discern that is the only benefit to her being on vacation, since i can just as easily get drunk and watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force while she’s here … she just pretends that she doesn’t live with me while i do it.

Thanks for the link. I like the nablopomo roundup idea – this should keep me reading well into the night.
