The apartment is like some sort of musical war zone right now… all of my guitars are out and about and the electric’s case is lying open right in front of the bathroom. Meanwhile, the amp has struck out a position exactly in the middle of the floor with it’s cord racing under the coffee table to connect with my bass, which is seated comfortable on the couch. My acoustic is thrown over the other arm of the sofa, and inbetween the two instruments my cd book is flipped open to the Peter Mulvey page. On the coffee table there’s some Bowie cds, my computer speakers, my cd walkman, an Ani DiFranco sheet music book, and a box of guitar picks. One speaker is connected to my computer (another cross-room cord) and the other is plugged into the walkman. My stereo is hovering slightly in front of the door as if anticipating a visitor, and behind it the amp is plugged into the wall (usurping my cd changer for the time being). Only Matt’s 5-string bass has managed to stay safely tucked away in the bedroom, awash in a certain fear that it might be called into action if my attention rests on it for more than a moment. Happily, my bedroom door is closed … there’s a whole other mess in there to deal with.

Err, meanwhile, i won’t ever bitch about how long it takes to set up a drum set at a concert ever again. Today in Recording class we had to set up and mic a drum set for live performance… 12 mics. Even with a class of twelve people and a half hour to get the task done, i’m not entirely sure we got to a point where the drum could’ve been recorded. I’ve got to buy an ADAT tape and head into the studio to record something on it as my first lab… we’ll see if i can snatch any yummy audio for you.

Wow, i’m the high bidder on three accordians, and am shopping for another three. Can anyone give me a price range for a mid-sized used accordian at least twice as old as me? Anyone?

i want an accordian. Seriously. I was just over at Amy&Renata’s, and Amy winds up having a rather nice steel strung guitar and a smallish accordian that’s stuck in the key of C. I immediately set to banging out some requisite Tori and the accordian bit from “Angry Anymore,” but my fingers and my brain are itching to experiment some more. The thing is coming to my next demo sessions, for sure, but now i want my own 50 year old beat up accordian!!! Who knew Urkel was so cool…

In an amazing display of technical merit, i just took apart and put back together my CD drive, and now it works again (and i found a piece of it that i had presumed as gone for over a year now, which presumably was blocking the track of the tray). In an equally amazing display of early morning numbness, i missed the bit on my Recording Exam where it said “and define the terms” on a question where i knew the terms better than i know my own foot size. Damned feet.
