Where does Ben Folds go to with the girl in “Brick?” For some reason i had always assumed it was an abortion clinic, but that’s probably because i listen to way too much Ani DiFranco. Going to an abortion clinic the day after Christmas is a bit morbid … i’m usually out buying bargain ornaments. Is the girl in the song sick? She’s “balled up on the couch,” and he remarks that no one is around to find him out. Of course, would getting a girl pregnant suddenly make her a “brick?” Actually, i don’t think she’s getting an abortion, because… i dunno, would he buy a girl flowers after that? In the weeks to come she proves to be less than okay, and he has to “Tell the truth.” Is she sick? I’m so confused… So, if there are any big Ben Folds Five fans out there who think they know where exactly what’s going on, please enlighten me. Otherwise i’ll just ask Amy when she gets home from home…

The reason i had been putting off my German History paper for so long is because i just don’t feel like i know enough to write it. In fact, i am extremely attentive in that class and take incredibly comprehensive notes, but the scope of the paper (1900-1933) makes me feel as though i’ll certainly be missing out on some important details. So, i first missed the initially turn-in date, but everyone knows that this professor always allows a weekend for late papers without taking anything off. Monday rolled around as the new due date, and i still lacked a completed paper, so i skipped class (a mistake; missing a day of notes is not worth the exchange for the embarrassment of not having a paper to turn in, and i could have reasoned with my professor). So, now i’m turning in my paper over a week after its original due date, and it isn’t any better for all the time i’ve been putting it off. I got an 88% on the first paper, which should give me every reason to think i’m gonna kick this one’s ass, but i’m still deathly afraid of it even as i write the first two pages effortlessly. *fear*

Working very hard on the layout for DIYlog – the log for net-musicians of all shapes and colours. There’s still time to join up, btw…

So, the trio i recorded won’t be going up, only because it took me forever to tune up my guitar inbetween playing “little plastic castle” and the next song. For those not in the know, “lpc” is an Ani DiFranco song that’s played on a four string tenor guitar tuned ADAD, whereas a normal guitar is tuned EADGBE. So, i had to turn ADAD into ADGB and then add the E on either side and then launch intrepidly into another song. I managed to do this in about three minutes, and the result was a scorching version of my oldie “Like Mine.” However, the long wait was deathly to keeping listener interest, so “lpc” will have to get cut from this week’s set.
