Damnit, i want to be a Tenor. I spent all this time assuming that any notes far outside of first position on a guitar were useless, but the more and more i expand my taste in indy rock the more i realize you can make use of a high male voice in rock and roll without it just being a gimmick, and that i’m woefully stuck as a Baritone and should probably start retuning my guitar accordingly to make better use of my range.

This thought inspired by Jimmy Eat World’s Clarity, which hits notes i can’t even reach in falsetto.

Ironically (in the shadow of my interaction with Patti Rothberg’s guitarist), “Splinter” is a song written totally under the influence of Patti’s music – the passing chords and mix of suspended and add chords are a technique taken verbatim from her new album. Funny, huh? I think this whole day is funny…

Bill (the Senior who i recorded with tonight, who happens to be the head of the aforementioned 8 to the Bar) seems to be convinced of my vocal talents despite the fact that i haven’t yet manifested any of them. At this point anyone online who has cared to hear me sing has heard me through the various audio on my site, and i think it’s clear that i’m not so bad as a potential indy rockstar but i’m not going to be cast in any musicals or super boy-groups anytime soon. Despite this, Bill claims on the strength of my old demo cd that i have a massive unlocked potential, and that as soon as i learn to sing with confidence and to support notes i will “have the kind of voice that gets cast as the lead in musicals.” Bill’s a nice guy, but i’ve never heard him build anyone else up in quite the same fashion as he does me. Either he thinks i need all the encouragement i can get (and i do), or he really has that much faith in me. Which is scary.

Trio: Season 1, #16

March 10, 2001 by krisis

I just recorded a Trio of four songs… both couples of songs. The new two from Thursday and the combo of “Splinter” and “Hold on Me.” I don’t know if i really want to upload it, because it feels a little too raw, but i want to have those songs on here to hear, so we’ll see. But, for now i have to go. *sigh* See you later.

Wow, i’m a broken fucking record, eh? “And the emotions spun out of control and the bodies fit like a needle in the groove and after it was all over we couldn’t even muster up the strength to move.”
