From the studio: Mornings are for Bill’s all vocal rendition of Rusted Root’s “Send Me On My Way,” afternoons are for me. We ran out of tracks to record all of his a capella percussive glory, so we switched to a second tape, but for reasons i don’t really want to get into we couldn’t seuge up the two tapes, so now we’re doing it totally blind … trying to punch the percussion tracks in at the exact second we need them. Fun, eh? After this i think we’re headed to lunch, because i’m getting a bit loopy, and then it a marathon run through the rest of my demo, which should be simple compared to this and “Under My Skin.” Yeah. I’ll update you later….

Even with my cd collection continuously expanding (at a rate better than one a week last year), i never have the right disc at the right time. Matt was just playing Nevermind, and he told me to put something in to follow it up, and i just sat here and stared dumbly at my record collection. Not that i had to defeat Nirvana, or anything, but you just don’t throw on a Madonna album to complete the feeling that you get from Nevermind. I could’ve really gone for Pinkerton, but since i inexplicably don’t own that, i threw in Built To Spill’s 1994 effort There’s Nothing Wrong With Love – because it’s squeaky and sentimental while also possessing some cool guitars and rocking. So, yeah. But this obviously means i need to go shopping.

Interestingly enough, i got the Patti Rothberg album the day i (sorta) started seeing Selina; it’s the day we use(d) as our anniversary. The fact that Freddie just emailed me today about something i wrote on that day is … ironic. Yeah, ironic… and i’m still a shithead.

Well, i was going to post a public apology, but then it got lost to a shuffle of copy and pastes, so here’s the condensed version.

I slagged the new Patti Rothberg record on the 11th of January. I didn’t like it. Since then, i’ve grown to like it, but it’s my stance that i don’t reccomend albums that i don’t like on my first listen to the general public (though i still have kind words for them to fans), so i never updated my review.

This week Mr. Freddie Katz, Patti’s current guitarist and songwriting pal, found my site via Google and read my scathing review and my indictment of him as the fault behind why i didn’t like the album. He emailed me and basically pegged me as the kind of fan who isn’t. It hurt. But, it was true, because what i said hurt him, and as a member of the general public i shouldn’t have that right.

Whoever knew someone mildly famous might randomly search down their name on my website? Certainly not i. Anyhow, i replied to Freddie and apologized, and informed him that i quite like the record now, which is true. I honestly would have rather heard Patti produce herself, or play every guitar on the record again, but she’s the artist and he claims the record met her artistic vision … which is enough for me.

Anyhow, my best wishes to Patti and Freddie in the future. I’ll still be listening. I dunno if either of them ever want to talk to me again, though. I think what this all proves is that i’m a shithead… yep. In case you hadn’t figured it out already.

Bill (the Senior who i recorded with tonight, who happens to be the head of the aforementioned 8 to the Bar) seems to be convinced of my vocal talents despite the fact that i haven’t yet manifested any of them. At this point anyone online who has cared to hear me sing has heard me through the various audio on my site, and i think it’s clear that i’m not so bad as a potential indy rockstar but i’m not going to be cast in any musicals or super boy-groups anytime soon. Despite this, Bill claims on the strength of my old demo cd that i have a massive unlocked potential, and that as soon as i learn to sing with confidence and to support notes i will “have the kind of voice that gets cast as the lead in musicals.” Bill’s a nice guy, but i’ve never heard him build anyone else up in quite the same fashion as he does me. Either he thinks i need all the encouragement i can get (and i do), or he really has that much faith in me. Which is scary.
