Opinions on getting flung? Says J.Miller:
Personally, I probably wouldn’t fling…not that the opportunity would arise, anyway. For argument’s sake, however, if I were to fling, I’d want to do it sober so that I could be assured of remembering it. =)
So, although Mr. Miller feels that he would never warrant a fling, inebriation or not, theoretically he might do it if he could retain all of the vivid and colourful memories of it. Do you agree?

lalala. I’m debating the merits and demerits of drunken flings with one of my friends via instant messaging services, which is [of course] what the internet was intended for from the start. He seems to view a inebriated hookup almost as a right of passage as long as it isn’t too embarrassing, whereas i find it rather reprehensible; if you want to kiss someone, you should have enough respect for them to kiss them sober. Drunk kisses tend to mean all the wrong things, and what they don’t mean is that you’re willing to put any real effort into getting someone interested in you. Also, assuming we’re referring to something akin to a one-night-stand, they mean you’re forever left wondering if it anything that ocurred meant something to the other person, or if it was really just the liquor talking. Articulate reader commentary on this will be posted at a later date, so please chime in with opinions, experiences, ect (this is honestly a test-run to see if i want blog-voices, so open up your damned mouths for once to email me and then it’ll be easier for all of us).

Finals are over. My Literature teacher somehow managed to give me a B. I finished all of my studio work. Selina went home for break. I’m sitting in the middle of the floor with my bass (turns out my amp is a bass amp … who knew?) using my suddenly reacquired magic ear to pick out bass runs from “Raspberry Swirl.” It’s a true song, you know…

But, anyway, back to sex. It isn’t worth it, honestly. First off, i don’t trust birth control pills one bit. Sure, they’re over 90% effective when used correctly, but between human error and that remaining 10% they’re basically just useful for clearing up your skin and keeping your cycle regular. Condoms are also highly effective… over 98% when used correctly and with spermicide. Yet, nearly every couple whose sex-life i’ve been privy to has had a condom failure of some kind, whether it was their fault or not.
And then there is emotion. Sure, sex feels nice (or so i hear), but how many people do you really want to be entangled with on that level, physically or emotionally. Because, no matter what reasoning you assign or what protection you use, every time you have sex you’re not only agreeing to risk swapping rather vital bodily fluids, but you’re also entering into the contract of parenthood. If you play it safe, chances are that you’ll never have to step up to the plate on either of those charges, but they’re both the kind of thing that can forever alter a life.
Or maybe i’ve been a peer counselor long enough to be scared of everything and to know better than commit careless human error. Either way… it isn’t worth it. At least, i don’t think it is. Of course, i haven’t had any of it so i don’t suppose i’m qualified to make a decision for you, but you’ve got my opinion on it.

After the movie we saw a friend of mine who i haven’t been in school with for over half a decade, though i saw her almost exactly two years ago this week. The last time I saw her was at the sneak-preview day for accepted students at Drexel; i remember that she was fairly sure she’d be attending a different college but she was going to be a journalism major too and we had fun catching up with each other. Later that day i wound up on the lawn of Buckley Green with Gina, Joey, and our old friend Matt. We just sat there and speculated on all the ways college would change our lives. The conversation is etched into my memory indelibly as one of those eerily foreshadowing moments that seem like they were originally found on 90210 on that last episode before they all went to college together.
Here we are two years later. At the movie theatre, when i asked how she was, she told me she had a little girl. She couldn’t find a picture of her to show me. When she asked me what my major was at Drexel i said “Journalism, still,” and she said “That was my major…” I told her to take care of herself and she smiled at me.
People shouldn’t be allowed to have sex while they’re in college. Especially the smart people.
