CNN.com: NEW YORK (CNN) — In what President Bush called a terrorist attack, two planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers on Tuesday, leaving them both in flames from explosions in a terrifying scene as black clouds of smoke billowed over Manhattan.
CNN has switched to a text-only main page format with a single headline picture to handle the load on their server. Further bulletins included “Fire reported on National Mall” and “White House evacuated.”

Breaking network news indicates that a third plane has crashed into the Pentagon within the last half hour. The section where the impact occurred had just been newly remodeled and reopened to workers. Someone was quoted as saying that the “floor buckled and the roof caved in.” During the day the Pentagon is literally a small city… hosting over 35,000 workers. Reporters noted that people have been brought out of the building on stretchers.
Not to be a newsmonger, but i am a Journalism student, and so far the coverage of this is ridiculous.
Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York City this morning within less than a half hour of each other. So far there is no official word on the motive or on any casualties. The first plane struck shortly before 9am and was described by witnesses as a small twin engine passenger jet. A witness from Dow Jones was quoted as stating that “it looked like the wing crashed down to the street” despite the fact that the majority of the aircraft remain lodged in the upper floors of the building.
The second plane was filmed by television cameras already present as a result of the first crash, and appeared to be a Boeing 737. MSNBC reports that “the FBI said it was investigating reports of a hijacking. A United Airlines employee said he had heard reports that an American Airlines jet had been hijacked and was one of the two aircraft that flew into the center. It was not clear if there were passengers on board.”
The last infamous terrorist attack on the World Trade Center occurred on February 26th, 1993 in the form of a truck bomb. The blast killed six people in injured over a thousand others.
I’ll continue to update with distilled news as it breaks.
Sometimes it’s Brendan’s footnotes that make me laugh the hardest. Dude, i must get a look at your textbook … i wish we had classes like that at Drexel. Actually, having read that would’ve definitely aided my enjoyment of the Madonna concert, which featured a witty edit of anime girls being chased, beaten, and taken advantage of to the tune of a pounding remix of “What It Feels Like;” i specifically remember seeing an example of what your footnote mentioned and wondering what the big deal was :p
The awful thing about that monstrous post is that it probably won’t make a whole slew of sense to you until i write two more multi-paragraphed posts about a) Liking a song deep in my gut regardless of whether i identifying with it and b) Why i listened to Pinkerton nearly all day yesterday, which found me occasionally on the verge of tears.
Bleh, whatever happened to just posting every fifteen minutes?
