Or that last night Ben got mistaken for gay by lots of attractive girls who he was flirting with while i sat on the couch making color commentary along with his roommate and Selina’s best friend? When my aunt Joyce first heard about me being the overnight and day visit coordinator for the admissions office at Drexel, the first thing she asked was “Have you met any cute girls?” Forget for a moment how incredibly innapropriate it would be for me to hit on cute pre-freshmen, and just notice that the first thing that Joyce asks me about any situation i get myself into is how many cute girls the situation contains. Since i was somewhat incommunicado during the rehearsal period for good woman of setzuan no one in my family ever really heard about or met Selina other than my mother, so they’re all stuck assuming i’m in the same little anti-dating zone that i was in in high school. And, to an extent i still am, but i just think it’s hilarious how they pump me for information constantly to see if i’m seeing anyone, or thinking about seeing anyone, or thinking about anyone. I think one or two of my other aunts might have finally given up and assumed that i’m gay based on my total lack of apparent attraction to the opposite sex (and my utter refusal to attend any sort of go-go bar with my father every year around my birthday), but the wonderful thing about my family in that respect is that they’re very accepting but they never bring things like that up on their own. So, as far as i’m concerned, the gayer the better – that way i don’t need to hear them bitch all the time about my lonesome love life.

As for the Cast Party on friday night there were only a middling amount of actual cast members there, but there was plenty of liquor and it got rather interesting rather quickly. Highlights included being told i was “the gay icon of the entire homosexual population of the Freshman class,” a rocking acoustic performance of “Like a Virgin” that didn’t even involve me, and how everyone was scratching and clawing at each other to get ahold of the one Pre-Mix demo i brought for Laurel, who left today. Lowlights included dropping a bottle of hard lemonade right on the ground instead of getting it into the pocket i was aiming for, not really having any females to flirt with in a productive fashion, and the inhuman amount of vodka i put in every single screwdriver. If you’ve got a low tolerance, don’t let me mix drinks for you, okay? The night came out alright, though i wound up sleeping far far into the afternoon yesterday after i finally dragged my ass back to the apartment. Certainly not a night i’ll be forgetting anytime soon.

Aren’t you wondering about that Shakespeare drinking game that was in store for me earlier? Apparently we’d have to drink every time we flubbed reading a line. The hard part is this: in Shakespeare you’re only allowed to breath at the periods. Commas, semicolons, and dashes are all pauses in speech – but they are not full stops and so can’t be used to take a breath. Combine this with the incredibly lengthy sentences and weird olden-time words and you’ve got yourself a decent drinking game. Of course, by definition all the decent ones get harder as you drink more…

Petland did indeed make it into our Battle of the Bands, somewhat due to the fact that i dragged Amy along with me to judge the bands knowing full well that her eyes would pop out of her head when she heard them. Yes – i’m a manipulative little bastard, and yes – i plan to love every second of their live set. Also confirmed were two local favourites: jazz hip-hop trio Fresh Batch and the hard-edged Dead Susan. Interestingly, both bands are fronted by members of the Drexel male a capella group Eight to the Bar, which seems to have no shortage of golden voiced guys to lend out to local bands. Their most recently acquired member was my fellow male lead in Good Woman of Setzuan, who plays guitars and drums after the fact of having an amazing tenor voice that i’ve been jealous of for an entire year now. Obviously i should be sucking up for the next spot in the group … but, oh, yeah, i should probably learn to sing first. I knew there was a problem…
