Me too!!! I think the internet has sapped my attention span worse than any other major appliance or entertainment system has managed to, because i truly control the speed and refreshment of the content. Just thought i’d say so.

I totally didn’t realize that the new Marilyn Manson disc had been released until i saw it sitting next to some Aimee Mann albums while at Best Buy yesterday. Poor Marilyn has always outdid his inventive musical range with his less than engaging stylistics, and it seems to have finally taken its ultimate toll on his career. I actually bought his last cd, Mechanical Animals, and it was a very nice David Bowie album. After all, Manson really is just a Bowie for our decade, only lacking the true chameleon abilities both visually and stylistically that Bowie possessed. Or maybe i’m making an unfair comparison. The point is, the poor boy didn’t even manage to drum up enough hype inbetween releases by U2 and Limp Bizkit. And that’s just sad.

I just valiantly trucked through a take of trio that just wasn’t all there. i’m hot, and the mess is making me claustrophobic, and my high string broke, and my finger hurts, and i am not in a music making mood. The tracks were going to be “Nothing to Say,” “Like Mine,” and “Give” – all of which qualify as being rather difficult for me to play, so apparently now is not the best time. It’s probably because my body expects some alcohol by this point in a week, even if it’s a ButterShot. I should keep a bottle of those around just for that purpose … wow, which would make me a Behind the Music episode ready to happen. I suppose all those rock and roll stars established their unhealthy patterns pretty young and they just blossomed in the limelight. Ack, what a horrible meandering post this is. Talk to you later.

Reserving judgment on the new U2 disc until i get to know it a bit better. Of course, that would have to happen tomorrow if i’m going to be able to get my review done in time for this week’s paper. The album just doesn’t hit me as hard as i feel it should; i’m not sure if it’s a result of a general apathy to U2 or the fact that the album is mediocre. Maybe after suffering through Pop i would actually appreciate it…

I hate writing a bad song. Not only do i potentially waste some good lines or riffs which i am then reluctant to recycle, but i more importantly loose a chance to voice an emotion. Sure, a lot of my songs cover roughly the same emotional territory, but not many of them come from the exact same inspiration. This summer i very badly wanted to write a song about my first kiss that would say exactly what i felt about it, but in reality it just came off as a too-shimmery Britney Spears b-side. I keep trying to reform it, and it is getting better, but i’m not sure that i’ll ever want to play it in the company of other songs like “relief” and “under my skin.” But, my inability to say or write what i feel, tomorrow’s trio is going to be chock full of good songs i haven’t played yet to make up for missing last week (which was totally unintentional). Ok… that’s all.
