Wow, so, okay, you know how i mention from time to time how i need to be more of a bitch? It’s sorta a running theme with me that i love to please everyone; this tends to be evidenced by the fact that no one ever seems to have a serious dislike of me despite me having a stubbornly assertive personality. This recently became a major problem at work because i was overbooking myself for visiting students because i refused to turn away anyone who had a nice phone manner. That ended pretty quickly, after i almost didn’t have a host for a few students. So… now that tiny ability to say ‘no’ is starting to balloon outward slowly in my gut, as if every time someone tries to walk on me i’m breathing hard to inflate it. Is it possible that any of you have been around long enough to remember Viktor? Well… the other day he walked by me and said hello and i told him quite succinctly to “fuck off.” Apparently now he mildy fears me, though he can’t understand what my problem is with him.

The thing is, i shouldn’t have to make him understand. As a human being i have the right to randomly dislike people without giving a single reason. Furthermore, i should be allowed to like it. And,… wow… i do. There’s some tiny little urge inside me to justify my reasons for not liking someone, but it’s getting pushed aside by that balloon as it swells bigger and bigger. Of course, the truly professional thing to do is to have a “bitch” inside you and to harness her and use her when people try to pull a fast on on you, but i figure before i get fine control over her i’ll have to lash out a few times ;)

Um, so, i’m in negotiations to play the Benefit for the Philadelphia Dyke March. Yes, the Benefit for the Philadelphia Dyke March – it’s honestly been referred to that several times during my discussion with its organizers. After some amount of intra-office discussion with my supervisor, we decided that in the office i’ll be referring to the event as the “Lesbian Fundraising Gala.” Maybe i can convince her to refer to it as the “Lesbo Ball” on casual Fridays?

In tangentally related office news, the ceiling above our administrative secretary partially collasped early this morning, and facilities has yet to do anything about it. It’s a drop ceiling (mostly because the old ceiling is too damned high to effectively light a room), and the hypothesis currently floating around the office is that one of the vertical supports gave way, cause the ceiling to sag downward where it’s no longer held up. Our secretary escaped to an empty office down the hall, but her fish has been relocated to the relative safety of my desk. He is a beta fish, and he does not look very happy, but that’s sort of the novelty of beta fishes anyhow.

Fridays here are odd.

And, finally, Tiffany (yes, Tiffany) will be playing a free Drexel show on Monday at noon between 32nd and 33rd streets under Market street. I’ll be there on my lunch break pretending that i’m reliving the 80’s as someone old enough to appreciate their irony rather than as a six year old who really enjoys watching She-Ra. Do you remember when you were very little and didn’t know how things worked? I mean… forget for a second about the clichés like “Why is the sky blue” and “Where do babies come from” and think about something more practical instead. I remember that i used to think you paid for every single time you picked up the phone, and every number you dialed was tracked – just like cell phones are now. Once in second grade i had to call one of my friends four or five times because the number was busy, and later that day i sheepishly apologized to my mother, saying “I’m really sorry mom, but you’re gonna see Leahla’s number a bunch on the bill cause i had to keep dialing it, but i’m really sorry ‘cuz i had to call her.” Once my mom was done with her little chuckle she was happy to explain to me that i could call my classmates as much as i wanted to and not worry about the bill. Sometimes i remember funny little things like that, and i always get the notion i should write them down in case they never come back to me again.

Demo update: Everything except for “never say goodbye” has been mixed down at least once; everything should be whittled down to a final mix tonight in the studio and burned to cd so i can get a track order together. A few promo copies might be floating around by Thursday of next week, but the earliest chance to grab a cdr copy of the disc will be in the Quad at Drexel on May 3rd, where we’ll have a limited number of copies for sale for $3. Anyone who buys a cdr copy can simply trade it back to upgrade to a pressed one when i get them done next month (not that there’ll be any difference, other than artwork). If you’d like a promo copy and you won’t physically be seeing me soon, you’ll need to send me $4 (shipping is $.99), or you can wait to order the mp3.com version which will be up early next month (and will cost $6). Obviously there won’t be any free copies this time, only because i’m trying to get together enough money to get a decent sized run of discs pressed in the near future. Got it? Cool. When my aunt Joyce first heard about me being the overnight and day visit coordinator for the admissions office at Drexel, the first thing she asked was “Have you met any cute girls?” Forget for a moment how incredibly innapropriate it would be for me to hit on cute pre-freshmen, and just notice that the first thing that Joyce asks me about any situation i get myself into is how many cute girls the situation contains. Since i was somewhat incommunicado during the rehearsal period for good woman of setzuan no one in my family ever really heard about or met Selina other than my mother, so they’re all stuck assuming i’m in the same little anti-dating zone that i was in in high school. And, to an extent i still am, but i just think it’s hilarious how they pump me for information constantly to see if i’m seeing anyone, or thinking about seeing anyone, or thinking about anyone. I think one or two of my other aunts might have finally given up and assumed that i’m gay based on my total lack of apparent attraction to the opposite sex (and my utter refusal to attend any sort of go-go bar with my father every year around my birthday), but the wonderful thing about my family in that respect is that they’re very accepting but they never bring things like that up on their own. So, as far as i’m concerned, the gayer the better – that way i don’t need to hear them bitch all the time about my lonesome love life.
