In the acquisitions department, one of my favourite people and one of my favourite bloggers have signed up to be a part of the uprush family: Aim and ClosetBoy. If the two of them keep up with their intentions, the overall quality of this domain will have increased dramatically; this is why i am so careful about who i host. I love to be proud of my family. Visit them.

So, i’ve really let my conviction to share my life with y’all lapse this past week, and i apologize. Really, it’s the strangest week i’ve spent in my entire life, starting a week ago today. Or, maybe it’s been the weirdest year of my life starting from then. I’m having this interesting phenomenon lately where some of my old songs seem to be rewriting themselves to match what i’m going through right now; by swapping in something as small as a single word the whole intent of a song can change. “Under My Skin” became a different song on Sunday when i was singing it for someone, because i got stuck on the line “i don’t miss you anymore,” and rather than continuing on in the song i turned it into this cathartic 30-second long repetition with my voice rising in volume every time, only to finally calm for the “i’m not allowed to… but you’re under my skin.” Sure, she’s still under my skin, but i’m not allowed to miss her in a very different way now compared to how it used to be. >sigh

I’m dying. Really. I mean… life right now is a really good life, but there are a lot of really shitty parts of it. I hate my classes. I keep telling myself that i’m going to drop one or two but i still have 19 credits. Classes are the main problem… without them i’d have enough time to deal with everything else so that it was all good. I need to go to physical therapy for my collarbone, but i don’t have any time for it. I have play rehearsal every night this week; i think i need to miss one of my co-op interviews. If i miss it, i might get into trouble. I interviewed last week for the only job i want… let’s all pray they pick me. Anyhow… despite all my bitching, life is good. Life is good. Good.

So, um, kids, the nominating period for the Bloggie Awards is almost up, and i’m feeling a little insecure. Are you sure you all nominated Trio for best non-blog content, or me for “best unknown blog” or “best new blog.” Don’t you love me? Well… i guess we’ll find out on Friday when the final nominees are announced. In the meantime, go read some more of SBlog2, because they’re talking about measuring their genitalia in pixels, which is pretty low-brow. Always pandering to the lowest common denominator… just like Fox :p

My film/video class has been interesting in changing the way i frame everything i take in day-to-day. My teacher made a rather interesting point about using a zoom lens the other day – a quick zoom shot is unnerving because human beings have no way to zoom in on a picture, but a slow zoom on something like a face is nature because it simulates us getting closer and closer to whatever we’re looking at.

Something else that i’ve been noticing is the distance i frame my visual “shots” from. I think we all mostly use a full or mid shot, where we’re looking at most of the torso of someone, plus their head and some of the space above it. A shot we almost never use in real life is extreme-closeup, where we don’t even focus on the entirety of an object but just the focus of its action. How often do we see a face in extreme closeup? Pretty much only when we’re close enough to kiss someone, wouldn’t you say? It’s hard to keep perspective on something when you’re that close … trying to remember what a cheekbone and a jaw have to do with the rest of a face or the entirety of a person. It’s almost easy to forget that anything else is there except for that fraction of a face… a visage floating more closely than you’d ever dare get with a camera.
