I hate the fucking theatre. I should have trusted my first instinct and stayed away from this play. I should always trust my first instincts, and i seldom do. I did this play not because i wanted to act, but because i would get a chance to play guitar on stage and sing. Singing was secondary to the arrangement of my own song and singing it to my own accompaniment, and i just had that taken away from me. One week before the show and the director decided the song wasn’t “working” with the guitar, so he brought in a pianist. I have never in my life had to sing for/with a pianist before, i don’t know the song for the rhythm of the piano arrangement, and i hate theatre. And it’s got to work in the next 9 days because then the show opens. Except, i don’t care. The minute my director told me to put down my guitar, however apologetic he might have sounded, he flicked a switch in my brain from on to off. On was enjoying the show, coming to rehearsal ready to try new things, practicing my song every day on my own time so it would sound good that night. I have none of that now, and it might seem unprofessional, but isn’t it a bit more unprofessional to totally change my song leaving me only a week to learn it again? Yeah, i thought so too…

Someone you know bought himself a sweet electric-acoustic guitar yesterday. He isn’t quite used to the amazingly easy action on it (as opposed to his guitar, which is like playing piano strings with your bare hands), but promises an obscenely unrehearsed Trio tonight. Maybe even two. Yum.

You should probably hate me.


I don’t know if you noticed at all, but i sorta went out and got a life. I have to battle against the opposing forces of rehearsal, class, work, (survivorblog,) and a girlfriend before i get to this lonely white screen, and once i’m there i still need something to say. And i’ve got nothing to say. This nothing is a different sort of nothing than i used to have. In the past i’ve called myself two dimensional and claimed that i don’t have a single interesting thing to divulge to anyone other than the banal comings and going of my life. Now i feel somewhat oppositely… almost like i’m content that my life is full of actual happenings, so i don’t have to talk about them so much to prove their existence. Or maybe i think too much.

I’d also like to apologize for a lack of Trio … my guitar has been MIA for nearly two weeks now at my least favourite music shop in the city, getting repairs. I’d like to have a moment of silence for it, starting now…

I had to sing in rehearsal today, without my guitar. Scary stuff. Another tuner popped off of it a few days ago in the middle of trying to record a Trio, so i finally gave in and sent the poor thing to the shop for a bit of maintenance. Afterwords, Gina and I went on a mad guitar shopping spree where nothing was actually bought but lots of things were touched and ‘ooohed’ at. But, i might not spend money on a new guitar, because i want to go here.

For those not in the know, the South by Southwest Conference is sortof a point of convergence for all sorts of hip folks in the realms of internet and music, and, as it turns out, ten or more SurvivorBloggers of past and present are planning on attending and throwing some wicked hotel parties. Yeah. So, aside from the fact that i’m gonna get hit on more than a 5-year old boy at a MAMBA convention, it seems like it’d be a nice break before finals. Of course… to go to the music & internet portions of the festival i’d have to stay straight through my finals week, which would be a little iffy to plan now seeing as i don’t know when my finals will be. But, either way, i might be going to Texas! Yee-haw!
