Ani DiFranco

November 6, 2000 by krisis

God willed me to wake up in time for class today. Or, more accurately, i went to sleep around 5:30am, and barely woke up to move to the couch at 8am, but before hope was lost for my attending class this morning, the maintenance men showed up pounding on my door. It seems that our incessantly clacking radiator (which can keep a beat to Ani’s “How Have You Been” perfectly) is dripping onto the floor and down into the apartment below us. This function is apparently a ‘value added’ one, since it is in addition to the hellish temperatures the radiator (one of four) provides. They didn’t manage to fix it, of course, but i at least made it to Theory class and back. And that’s a start.

i’m afraid that bush might win. my mother is afraid. she told me that i had to vote, because she was afraid. of course, i had been planning to vote anyway, and for gore, of course. my sentiments on ralph nader are represented rather clearly by ms. ani difranco, who i was initially prepared to disagree with. nader might seem attractive at first, but please consider what’s at stake before you give him your vote. yes, we want change. yes, the democrats and the republicans are growing too hard to tell apart. please just vote for what you want to happen, and not for what you wish could happen. Please.

Attended the Ani DiFranco concert on Monday. A quick first draft of my review appears at JLA.uprush.org. I saw tons of people i know, and met Sara Lee and Gail-Ann Dorsey (Bowie’s bassist). Ani was good, but not tremdous; she gets to wrapped up in her jams while the audience is hoping for another song. I am in a computer crash-and-burn right now, so i’ll be back later… :(…

I have a lot of trouble saying what genre of music i’m a fan of. I mean, i obviously have a bent towards acoustic artists and singer-songwriters, but my interests stretch past that. I mean, i’m a huge Madonna fan, and she doesn’t quite qualify as a singer-songwriter. My favourite band is Garbage, and they’re electronic pop. So… what genre do i like? not sure. My answer to that question is typically that i’ll listen to any music that shows artistic merit. Even Eminem has artistic merit (he’s actually quite a talented freestyle rapper). Of course, Ani DiFranco’s artistic merit kicks Eminem’s ass, but that’s another matter entirely…
