gina

One final thought before i head out for my Friday night: i really am partially or totally naked in the apartment as much as my cam would indicate. Of the last four occasions of Gina coming downstairs to see me, i have had to put on additional clothing before opening the door all four times. Needless to say, Gina is a bit disconcerted. Anyhow, we’re off to ramble around U-City, hopefully winding up at Aim’s place. Did i mention the members only area of cam archives? Maybe you should be on the notify list… hearing me whine about my life on a more personal basis is a small price to pay for being able to treasure the many partially nude moments i’ve had on the webcam.

I’ll leave you with that.

Okay, so, we’re closing in on the last two songs, and I have a lot of people to thank for all of this, so bare with me for a minute.

First of all, i want to thank FryKitty for not only starting this whole shebang but for entertaining my various forms of insanity throughout the planning and implementation of the event (and for putting me on the cam portal at the last second … i think seeing my ass live on camera was a good reward for that, don’t you?).

Second, i want to thank all of the members of the Crushed List that encouraged me to participate in such reckless behaviour, especially Dane, Benjy, Liz, Cheese, Desh, Carton & Tony.

Third, thank you to Rabi for telling me (once again) that my music was worth her hard earned cash, even though i still refuse to accept it (or her cash).

Fourth, thank you to Mollie & Michael for inspiration and for strength and for two really good songs that i will play for you someday, i promise.

Fifth, thank you to all of my other sponsors who lit a fire under me to get this done even though i had no indication they even knew i played guitar before now: Tom, Martha, Nancy, Melissa, & Dave.

Not quite last, thanx and lol’s to supportcrime, Danica, Jerwin, Aim, Iza and fx for keeping me awake and enthusiastic from afternoon to midnight to afternoon again.

And, finally, Gina, who makes this all fun again and again and again.

“Deadweight” … it’s not the song i expected to have in the penultimate role, really. At first I was so convinced that “deadweight” was just some throw-away lyrics that i literally wrote it upside-down in the margins of a page with another song on it. You could hear that rhythm played a big part in the lyrics before i ever even know what the music was going to be like…. they have a certain kind of rise and fall to their layout. The riff couldn’t be simpler… C to Em, G to Asus, C to G, … all as simple as it gets. From the beginning i knew i liked it though, because it was explosive and loud and fun. I’m not quite sure what possessed Gina and i to have a collective go at it, as we typically avoid my faster songs, but we did, producing some lovely results. But, anyhow, at some point this year we had plenty of fast songs and so we started DeadWeight and just went into that holding patter over the chords until we were good and ready to get started, and away we went. And, that’s how it sounds now.

“Without You i Cry” was the first song i ever wrote, only at the time it was just a poem. But, Gina took it and songed it without even really thinking about it and now i’m glad she did, because that may have been why i decided i wanted to play guitar, and obviously it’s totally changed my entire life. It’s simple, and the language is wholly atypical of most of my work, but it’s mean, and we only knew simple chords at the time – can you tell? “With or Without You” wasn’t the first time i ever stood in front of people and played guitar, but it was the first time i had to prove my worth since it was for a talent show, and, of course, Gina dragged our asses into that without much effect from me in either direction.

The first time i ever sang on stage was also with Gina, at the end of my sophomore year of highschool when we sang “Sharks Can’t Sleep” as a quartet. No one believed i could sing back then (least of all Gina, i suspect), but the way i remember it i went to her and promised i’d be able to sing my verse if they’d let my have one, and so they did, and i held back my tiny breath and sang it, and all of the judges looked at me and then the next week we opened the talent show. So, that was two talent shows in a row. Did i mention that Gina rocks?
