Okay, so, we all know how i feel about chicks with guitars and we all know how i feel about Madonna, so i think we all should know that at this point in time i can’t breathe at all without hyperventilating, so i have to blog all of this before i pass out.

MadonnaRama reveals details of Madonna’s opening shows in Europe including the setlist including the following information:

We can confirm the following about Madonna’s guitars on the tour … Witnesses say that her playing on this tour is outstanding … Madonna will play a Gibson Les Paul guitar on “Candy Perfume Girl.” For “I Deserve It” and “Secret” she will pick up a Monte Pittman acoustic guitar … she will play a classic nylon guitar for “La Isla Bonita.” Needless to say, all the playing will be completely live – as will vocal performances.

In two weeks i’ve played outside for Spring Jam, in my supervisor’s office at work, for a room full of “dykes,” and in a tiny bar adjoining a good place to get wings. Each performance had its own little quirks, but tonight’s was definitely my favourite in many ways. Firstly, i had the crowd stacked in my favor with mucho peeps from the Player’s House. Secondly, i was really well rehearsed and not at all nervous. And, finally, all of my songs sounded good – even to me (which is a rare thing).

The set (a whopping hour long) follows, with minimal comments. A trio sneak-peek should be up sometime this weekend.
Other Plans (great opener, still love it),
Punk (crowds seem to pay attention to this; a shame it’s only 2 minutes long),
Deadweight (surprisingly coherent),
Ziggy Stardust (Bowie: random fun),
Relief (doesn’t seem to do much live),
Buildings and Bridges (Ani: by request!),
Under My Skin (wow, a crowd that didn’t know all the words…),
Bridge (“this is as close as i get to playing a solo”)
Dilate (Ani: huge and fun),
Give (hard to do live, but satisfying. thnx rabi.),
Crashing (broke a string; steve of The Conditions filled in while i got this ready),
Lost (quick and painless),
Like A Prayer (Madonna: not the best closer for a bar full of drunk men when you don’t know all the words, but all of the girls helped out by singing along).

My set was between a Drexel gal doing mostly covers and a massive two-hour (still going as i write) set by Justin (of dead susan fame) and Geoff. I think the owner invited me back for next week, but i’m sorta drunk on starvation so i don’t have a very clear memory of it. If i am playing next week, i need to learn some more cover songs. God help us all… g’nite.

Yesterday i liberated a microphone and a stand from the Performing Arts Department and gave a little concert in my living room in preparation for my big event at the Benefit for the Philadelphia Dyke March tonight. While my setlist is still in flux, the covers i’ll be playing throughout the evening include “Material Girl,” Ani’s “Untouchable Face” & “Heartbreak Even,” Erin McKeown’s “How To Open My Heart In Four Easy Steps,” and (of course) Jill Sobule’s lesbo classic “I Kissed a Girl.” Given some extra time i was going to do “Least Complicated,” “I Touch Myself,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” to round out the set, but even with these songs i’m going to have lyrics taped to the backs of my amps. What fun. But, anyway, it should be interesting because they’re nothing to fuck me up other than myself: i have all my own sound equipment, i’m playing by myself, i packed my equipment already, and i have backup batteries for everything. So, if this one goes as sour as the last one, i quit. But, it shouldn’t…

Isn’t it funny how a hard day at work turns into a mad scramble to pay off your credit card debt as soon as you find out your childhood idol will be potentially opening her US tour in your hometown? Anyhow, all my work stuff is taken care of, so i can just sit here and check my messages all day while i line up who’s got which credit card, and who can come on which night.
