Any time i get farther away from the city than the mall-ridden accessible suburbs, i get freaked out. To me, riding out to Millersville or Bloomsberg is roughly equivalent to a plane dropping me in the middle of a cornfield in Nebraska. It’s rather amusing, because i’m not of those “MAC machine, cell phone, newsstand, food truck” city people, but i am one of those “instant accessibility, constant public transportation, city skyline at night, traffic lights as opposed to rampaging cows” people. Meeting and chatting with students from Ursinus College was especially amusing/jarring, because i narrowly chose Drexel over Ursinus within the last two possible days before matriculation. Ursinus was a nice place, and i would have been a very valued student there, but it was just too goddamned far away from my precious precious skyscrapers. I could learn to love the country, but i’d need a really freaking fast internet connection, a driveway shorter than a third of a mile, a credit card with good online fraud protection, and my own car. In other freaky news, i would have definitely been a PiNu pledge at Ursinus, which means in the alternate reality of my life i would’ve just met the entire Drexel posse today for the first time. In that reality i eventually learned to like beer because that’s what everyone drank, and i learned to accept my theatre classes because Ursinus doesn’t have a straight Communications degree, and i learned to accept that going to a concert would be an all day event back in Philly. In short, i would have learned to compromise all of the things that i take for granted because without them i’d probably just curl up into myself and wither away.

Pi Nu Epsilon is a cool group of people because you know you have one overriding truth in common with everyone else in the Fraternity: you love music. Maybe you love to be in the spotlight, or to hold down the rhythm, or just to sit back inbetween your parts and listen, but it’s an uncommon comfort in relating to relative strangers that you know they swoon for a sweet melody the same way you do. Another interesting aspect of finally meeting our three other chapters is that they’re approximately three quarters female because both their bands and schools are predominantly female (whereas Drexel, primarily being an engineering and technology school, is almost to the point of an even gender split). I went over rather well for not knowing a single person (the first comment out of my mouth after our dizzying and frigid dorm-to-dorm dash search for the other members was “That was the worst fucking game of hide-and-go-seek i’ve every played.”), and i (as a matter of course) developed a crush on one of my sisters from another chapter in about ten minutes flat. Overall, the people were cool, we got stuff done, and i ate a whole freakin’ lot of red meat. I think i gained 10 pounds. Uck. But, hey, i looked dead sexy the whole time.

Wow… who woulda thought 24hours spent a quarter of the way into the deceptively fucking huge state of Pennsylvania could have such an effect on a boy. They even got me to play sports for about thirty minutes…

I wrote three papers that were a combination of opinion and recent academic research on topics surrounding AIDS/HIV, and i haven uploaded them for any who is interested to read. #1 is a short piece about AIDS education in America, #2 is a lengthy academic rebuttal of combating AIDS/HIV with circumcision of 3rd world children, and #3 deals with the African AIDS epidemic and what (if anything) can be done to slow its pace. I am not pretending that any of these three works are interesting or engaging, but all three are relatively well informed and pertinent to today’s subject. And they’re better then silence.
