Marvel Omnibus Announcement: Runaways by Rainbow Rowell and Predator vs. The Marvel Universe

May 27, 2026 by krisis Leave a Comment

Near Mint Condition recently announced two of our first new Marvel omnibus volumes for January 2027, and they’re both a bit unexpected: Runaways by Rainbow Rowell and Predator vs. The Marvel Universe!

Runaways (2017) #1 by Rainbow RowellRunaways by Rainbow Rowell Omnibus is one of my favorite Marvel runs of the past decade. Rowell’s run follows a group of characters who were always more entertaining as found family with interpersonal drama than they were as superheroes.

Under her pen, they were slightly more grown up but even more unsure of themselves than ever. If you love a Manga-esque slice of life drama set against a Marvel backdrop, this is a book you’ll dig. This is effectively Runaways Omnibus Vol. 3… and there is no Vol. 2 yet! See how it fits into continuity and how it has been collected already in my Guide to Runaways.

Seeing this Runaways book on the schedule tells me that the Sensational She-Hulk by Rainbow Rowell omnibus sold at-or-better-than expectations for Marvel. Runaways is not a seller on its own, so there isn’t a big motivation to put it on the release schedule. And, if Rowell’s She-Hulk underperformed and Marvel truly wanted to release a Runaways book as some kind of publishing or media tie-in, this could easily be the gap-filling Runaways Omnibus Vol. 2 instead of Rowell’s run… and, they’ve had 8yrs to publish that book since Vol. 1 was released!).

The fact that this early 2027 Rowell’s Runaways is a tell that Marvel thinks it will be a comparable seller to She-Hulk, whereas they don’t have a similar comparable on the Runaways Vol. 2 material (especially since that would involve marketing it under Joss Whedon’s name).

Predator vs. The Marvel Universe Omnibus is an unexpected omnibus because it’s so short – just 17 issues of Predators beating up on Wolverine, Black Panther, Spider-Man, and the Marvel Universe as a whole. I guess once you graduate to beating up the whole Marvel Universe there’s nowhere else to go… though I would’ve dug Predator vs. Krakoa, Predator vs. Asgard, and Predator vs. Guardians of the Galaxy!

Alas, we never got those. Each of the four titles in this book had some high points, but I wouldn’t call any of them modern classics that demanded an omnibus. See my Guide to Predator (eventually) for collection information.

Personally, I am surprised to see such a slim modern Predator book before a classic Alien vs Predator book. Maybe sales on the classic line Alien and Predator omnis were soft enough to make Marvel shy on an AVP omni?

Defenders Omnibus Mapping | 14th Annual Tigereyes Most-Wanted Marvel Omnibus Poll

February 13, 2026 by krisis 2 Comments

Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 2026 - Defenders Omnibus Mapping - Defenders (1972) #66Once every year, thousands of Marvel collectors from around the world gather together online to watch Near Mint Condition and vote on their most-wanted omnibus titles. That time approaches – time for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 14th Annual Secret Ballot! This post explains every Defenders omnibus for material that has not yet been collected comprehensively in omnibus – all of which will appear as options on the 2026 poll.

As one of the organizers of the poll, I work closely with Tigereyes and a team of Mapping Minties to be sure Marvel’s entire publishing history has been mapped, with every issue fitting somewhere into an omnibus volume to fill your oversize Marvel shelf. Then, we’ll kick off the poll on Near Mint Condition on March 22, 2026.

We only have two Defenders omnibuses so far – both from the classic line of Masterworks-based books. We got The Defenders Vol. 1 in 2021 and The Defenders Vol. 2 in 2023… but no Volume 3 turned up in 2025 or 2026! We still need another three volumes to resolve the classic Defenders line, three more for their modern material, and another two for the street-level Defenders of NYC.

Read this post and others in the series for a list of titles and omnibus mappings created by a group of the biggest collected edition enthusiasts on the internet. Every map is informed by Crushing Krisis comic guides and over a decade of polling data as explained by yours truly – keeper of the most-definitive guides to Marvel’s collected editions on the planet, including my Guide to Defenders.

Even if you don’t own a single omnibus, you can use this post to learn about Marvel’s history of material and find great comics to read physically or digitally!

New for Patrons: Guide to Spider-Man, Peter Parker (2018-Present)

August 10, 2022 by krisis

Today I am swinging in with a guide for all Patrons of CK that began as an unexpectedly-sticky update to an existing guide before I realized it had become a tangled web and I needed to spin some of it off into its own page. Of course, I’m talking about a Guide to Spider-Man, Peter Parker (2018 – present)!

This guide is now available to the public thanks to the spectacular support of Patrons of Crushing Krisis!

When I started making notes for this guide, I thought I’d simply be catching up on the collections of Amazing Spider-Man (2018), its 2022 relaunch, plus Peter David’s various flashback Symbiote Spider-Man series.

Those two things alone would make for a guide’s worth of content, but as I continued making notes I realized there was so much more – including Spider-Geddon, Tom Taylor’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Joy Kelly’s Non-Stop and Savage Spider-Man, several digital series, the upcoming End of the Spider-Verse crossover, and even more!

Marvel has released fifty Peter Parker Spider-Man series and one-shots in the past four years.

I’ve worked for many years to figure out the best way to untangle the massive bulk of my main Guide to Spider-Man, Peter Parker. Just the thought of adding all of this material to its table of contents made me shudder. About halfway through outlining I realized it was time for Mr. Parker to graduate into a second guide page for his most-moden era.

Never fear, non-Patrons – I’d never keep a major Marvel guide like this one exclusive for very long! That is not a part of my mission statement for Crushing Comics. This guide will have a brief window of exclusivity with my Patrons while I update the main Spider-Man guide and make sure they match up perfectly. It will be available to all readers in time for the debut of Dan Slott’s new adjectiveless Spider-Man series launching at the top of October.

Believe it or not, not only was I surprised this turned into its own guide page, it wasn’t even the guide page I set out to build when I planned for this week! If yesterday’s Guide to Heroes for Hire was an hors d’oeuvre, this is an appetizer to the massive reading order I’ll be back with tomorrow – which references the runs in this guide several times.

Any guesses?

New for Patrons: Spider-Ham Guide!

June 2, 2022 by krisis

I’m so happy to be getting my Crushing Comics guides back on track, and to kick that off I have a brief guide for a sentimental favorite to offer to all CK Patrons!
The Definitive Spider-Ham Guide
Spider-Ham on the cover of Spider-Man Annual 2019 #1

Long before I was a regular comic reader, I had a meager stack of comics from newsstands and spinner racks that sat on a slim bookshelf in my closet.

One was an old Conan comic from my father. Another was a random issue of Captain America.

The third was Peter Porker, The Spectacular Spider-Ham (1985) #6.

Peter Porker The Spectacular Spider-Ham (1983) #6

Possibly my first ever comic book?

I don’t know why I had it. I think people in my family assumed I would really love Spider-Man because I shared his name, but at the time (and, to this day) I was much more interested in Wonder Woman.

That one issue (which I still have!) meant I’ve always had a soft, nostalgic spot for Peter Porker. I never expected he would appear in a comic again other than as a one-off joke about the silly excesses of the 80s… until Spider-Verse.

Spider-Verse brought almost every iteration of every spider-character ever back into play for a brief, somewhat-bloody event, which included this Spider-turned-Super-Pig from Earth-8311.

Spider-Ham survived the carnage (not THE Carnage – lower-case carnage) of the event, befriended Spider-Gwen, Spider-Gwen become a hit, and the event inspired one of the most successful and awarded animated movies of all time.

The rest is (recent) history!

This might lead you to wonder: are there many Spider-Ham comic books to read? Are they anything like the zany version of the character who was cartoony even for a cartoon in Into The Spider-Verse.

Well… that depends.
