Marvel Omnibus Announcement: Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 8

The Amazing Spider-Man 1963 0250 coverNear Mint Condition announced one of the final Marvel omnibuses for the first half of 2027, and this June 2027 book is arriving earlier than many of us guessed it would! Of course, there’s always money in Spider-Man – especially right now – so it’s the perfect time to announce this book: Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 8

The “Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus” line are what many of us refer to as a “Masterworks” line of omnibuses. That’s because they are generally based on the restoration work and mapping of Marvel Masterworks hardcovers. Masterworks began by collecting their characters’ first stories from the Silver Age, but have now extended through the Silver Age into Bronze (and, in some cases, beyond).

New volumes of this Amazing Spider-Man line used to arrive at a 2-5yr interval, which is why it has been somewhat shocking (and prediction-defying) that we’ve now had three volumes in three years – Volume 6 in 2025, Volume 7 out last month, and now Volume 8 in 2027.

That is the quickest pace Marvel has ever set for a Masterworks-based line of omnis. We have no precedent for it whatsoever.

Marvel Omnibus Announcement: Spider-Man: Big Time Omnibus Vol. 1

Readers remain divided on this material 15 years after its release, but regardless of the fan sentiment I am happy this will exist: Spider-Man: Big Time Omnibus Vol. 1!

“Big Time” was the banner that kicked off the era of Spider-Man that followed “Brand New Day.” Like “Brand New Day,” this involved Amazing Spider-Man (1963) shipping multiple times a month, so there was only one other supporting Spider-Man ongoing on this period. Unlike “Brand New Day,” instead of being steered by brain trust of writers, “Big Time” was written by a single lead writer: Dan Slott (with frequent assists with his more deadline-oriented friend, Christos Gage).

Dan Slott was part of the writer-go-round during “Brand New Day,” but this omnibus kicks off the collection of his eight continuous years writing Spider-Man. To this point, the only omnibus collections of that entire period are the Superior Spider-Man Omnibus, Super Spider-Man Returns Omnibus, and the Spider-Verse / Spider-Geddon Omnibus.

That leaves us with some big gaps to fill!

Fans have stayed divided on this run because it’s more of post-MJ Spider-Man. Some readers are simply never going to enjoy Spider-Man not with Mary Jane, and that’s their prerogative. Personally, I don’t care so much.

Also, certain fans simply never cared for Dan Slott’s writing for Spider-Man. I don’t like Slott on every comic, but I found him endlessly engaging during this run. However, I’d agree he could write Peter Parker as a bit of a careless asshole and not just stuck with his Parker Luck. Also, Slott’s track record in writing women other than She-Hulk is abysmal. From Carlie Cooper to Cindy Moon to Mockingbird, almost every supporting woman who turns up in this run is treated like a shallow accessory to Spider-Man rather than a character with their own motivations.

You’ll note that this omnibus does not say “by Dan Slott” in the title. I think that’s a positive thing, and it shows in the mapping of this book. This could have simply collected Amazing Spider-Man (1963) issues, including the issues that interacted with the line-spanning event Spider-Island. Instead, it collects all of Spider-Island, including mini-series and one-shots not by Dan Slott.

That’s a different approach than the recent Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells omnibus line, which avoided collecting non-Wells tie-ins to both Dark Web and Gang War.

Some folks object to all of this non-Slott material in the book, saying it waters down the story. Pour moi, I think it’s a good thing for two different reasons.

Marvel Omnibus Announcement: Marvel Comics Presents Omnibus Vol. 1

Marvel Comics Presents 1988 0001Near Mint Condition announced another Marvel omnibus for April 2027, and it was book that left me cheering out loud… until I got into the details of how it will be collected. That doesn’t mean it sucks: the community is divided on how this material ought to be handled. So, let’s dig into the pros and the cons of the newest Marvel Omnibus Announcement: Marvel Comics Presents Omnibus Vol. 1.

What is Marvel Comics Presents? It was a long-running anthology title launched in 1988 that took an unusual approach – and that approach is what is causing controversy with omnibus collections.

Marvel’s existing Anthology title, Marvel Fanfare (1982), was a Direct Market title with high production values that featured an A-Story by major industry stars, and often a slightly more obscure B-Story. Some stories ran for 2-3 issues, but others were one-shots. Marvel also launched Solo Avengers (1987), which similarly featured a team-up A-Story (usually anchored by Hawkeye) with a shorter B-Story.

I’d say that was a relatively standard approach for both Marvel and DC to this point. We’d have to look back to Silver Age DC Comics to find anthology titles that regularly ran three or more serialized stories each month. That was not Marvel’s way of doing things from the Silver Age onward except for in their 70s magazines (like Vampire Tales (1973)).

Marvel Comics Presents (1988) [“MCP” for short] saw Marvel taking the DC Silver Age approach turned up to 11. It was a bi-weekly comic series with each issue featuring four eight-page stories. Each issue was usually fronted by a major mutant (often Wolverine) or Avenger, but the following three stories sometimes featured characters that could be much more obscure. And, most of those stories were multi-part series – with Black Panther kicking off with a 25-part story during the first year.

Of course, when you’re releasing 26 issues a year, a 25-part story isn’t so wild. It was basically a 10-issue series serialized across the entire year. Similar, many Wolverine stories ran from three to ten installments, meaning they were anywhere from a one-shot story to a four issue mini-series.

Marvel Omnibus Announcement: Avengers by Jed MacKay Omnibus (plus, a reprint of Hickman Avengers!)

Avengers 2023 0001 cover by CF VillaNear Mint Condition announced a Marvel omnibus for May 2027 that sticks with Marvel’s dedication to quickly collecting runs by their hottest creators as soon as they’re completed… plus, a hotly demanded reprint for June 2027: announcing Avengers by Jed MacKay Omnibus plus a reprint of Avengers by Jonathan Hickman Omnibus Vol. 1!

These two books are the absolute peak of modern day Avengers in two different ways. If you are a fan of Avengers on film, these are the sorts of blockbuster runs that will resonate with you as as a comic book reader.

Avengers by Jed MacKay Omnibus collects the complete run of Avengers (2023). This was a familiar, back-to-basics Avengers cast with a very modern sensibility drawn from two big DC flagship teams: Justice League & The Authority.

Like the Justice League, MacKay’s Avengers spent much of this run headquartered above Earth so they could rapidly respond to incidents anywhere around the globe. And, like The Authority, this was a hyper-powerful team who was fighting for the very survival of Earth itself as they try to beat back a series of “Tribulation Events” … predicted by Kang!

I loved absolutely everything about this blockbuster run, which eventually brought Storm back into the fold as an Avenger and broke artist Farid Karami to widespread acclaim. While I appreciate street-level superheroes, I like my flagship superteams big, bold, and fighting for the very survival of the human race!

I don’t quite love absolutely everything about this omnibus, though. That’s because it should absolutely double-dip MacKay’s Blood Hunt (2024) event series in its entirety. The event was effectively a full arc of Avengers (2023), complete with the entire cast! Blood Hunt was absolutely one of the many Tribulation Events that Kang warned the team about, and this book will feel weirdly incomplete without it included.

That said, it’s still a terrific omnibus of strong modern material, including art that absolutely demands to be seen in oversize format (even if the coloring was a bit shit).

Meanwhile, Marvel is also back to print for the second time with Avengers by Jonathan Hickman Omnibus Vol. 1, just four years after a prior reprint in 2023 (which was six years after the first printing in 2017). Marvel Omnibus Reprint: Daredevil by Charles Soule

Daredevil by Charles Soule Omnibus 2027 EditionNear Mint Condition announced a Marvel omnibus reprint for March 2027, and it is the number one most-demanded reprint by fans (according to the 2026 NMC Reprint Poll!): Marvel Omnibus Reprint: Daredevil by Charles Soule!

It’s wild to me that Marvel didn’t get a reprint of this omnibus out in 2026, since Daredevil: Born Again focused on elements of Soule’s run in both 2025 and 2026. Reprinting the book in 2025 might’ve been too much of an early spoiler, but in 2026 fans were clamoring to pick up this material after watching the first season.

Instead, we got a trio of digest-size trade paperbacks. And, honestly? That’s a great read on where the market is right now. Collected editions are selling well right now when they are affordable and comprehensive, and omnis are only one of those two things.

However, as DC has proven repeatedly in the past year, when material is hotly demanded you can release it across multiple formats at the same time! And, nothing at Marvel is more hotly demanded than Daredevil by Charles Soule, which topped the NMC poll in both 2025 and 2026.

This is huge omnibus (1200+ pages!) of a run that I thoroughly adore and heartily recommend. Charles Soule is a real life lawyer, so he brings an amount of legal grounding to Matt Murdock that we’ve never seen before. Soule is also a big idea guy. He invents an iconic new villain in Muse, gives Daredevil a sidekick in a way that really works, and pushes Kingpin and other existing cast members in all new directions.
