New For Patrons: The Definitive Guide to Teen Titans, Titans, and Young Justice

May 26, 2018 by krisis

I’m back after a few busy months both online and off with the first of a few new comic guides to thank Patrons of Crushing Krisis for their continued support…

Teen Titans, Titans, & Young Justice – The Definitive Reading Order and Collecting Guide

This guide covers every in-continuity Teen Titans series, from their first appearance in The Brave and The Bold (1955) #54 and 60 in 1964 to the two titles currently running in Rebirth.

This guide was nowhere near next on my list, but two things changed that. First, I reached Teen Titans and Titans in my DC Rebirth reading. I felt like I didn’t understand who any of the characters were or where they came from. As is my wont, as I read the comics and researched the characters, I sketched in some guide details. Within a few hours I realized I had a solid skeleton for a a complex guide.

Second, earlier this week I polled my friends at The Omnibus Collector’s™ Comic Swap and Community and they overwhelmingly voted that this should be the next guide I tackle!

Want access to this guide today? It’s available, along over a dozen other exclusive guides, in exchange for covering $1.99 a month of CK’s hosting expenses.

New For Patrons: The Definitive Guide to Spider-Man, Miles Morales

February 12, 2018 by krisis

Today I brought Patrons of Crushing Krisis a guide that is one of the final pieces to providing full coverage of the Marvel Legacy era of titles. It also greatly simplifies my most-complicated (and most-visited!) single guide by breaking an important character out into his own page…

Mile Morales, Spider-Man – The Definitive Reading Order and Collecting Guide

While my Marvel Ultimate Universe Definitive Collecting Guide covers all of Miles’ appearances in the Ultimate Universe, there he’s one in a crowd of several characters being tracked from series to series.

This new guide covers every Miles Morales appearance, from his debut in Ultimate Fallout #4 through his transition to the main 616 Marvel Universe in the wake of Secret Wars in 2015.

Want access to this guide today? It’s available, along over a dozen other exclusive guides, in exchange for covering $1.99 a month of CK’s hosting expenses.

New For Patrons: The Darkhawk Reading Order and Collecting Guide

December 9, 2017 by krisis

It’s a new guide exclusively for Patrons of Crushing Krisis – a guide I suspect most of you would have never guessed I’d create: a complete guide to Marvel’s Darkhawk!

This guide covers every Darkhawk appearance in chronological order, from his debut in 1991 to his resurgence with The Runaways and his cosmic adventures in War of Kings.

Patreon has been in the news for all the wrong reasons this week. They’ve bungled the communication about a pretty awful change to their transaction fees. I have a lot of thoughts about that as a creator, a communications professional, and someone whose job it was to analyze the data of venture-backed companies.

Honestly, it’s been hard to keep the “creator” part of me on track the past few days when all I want to do is let the other two parts dissect the problem and wallow like pigs in mud at all of the reactions and press coverage in its wake while worrying that all of my Patrons might quit – leaving me to pay for CK and its many helper tools all on my own (which, if you read yesterday’s post, is kinda hard when you can’t even deposit your freelance checks).

Ultimately, the show must go on. I’ve got to pay a hosting bill at the end of the month regardless of how this Patreon situation works out, and in the meantime I have so many things I want to say and do here that posting daily and maintaining a daily web show barely even cover it.

Which, improbably, included creating a guide to Darkhawk. Who’s next Sleepwalker?! Stay tuned to find out. I haven’t yet determined when this guide will become available to the public, but you could be browsing it tomorrow in exchange for covering $1.99 a month of CK’s hosting expenses.

New Comic Guide: The Definitive Guide to Watchmen

November 23, 2017 by krisis

Yesterday, DC resurrected The Watchmen’s universe in the first issue of Doomsday Clock, a year-long event that gives us our first glimpse of what happened after the end of Watchmen 20 years ago.

To commemorate the occasion, starting today my new Watchmen guide is available to the general public! This new guide was made possible through the support of the Patreon community, who pay for Crushing Krisis’s regular monthly expenses.

My goal with this guide was to create something distinctly different from other Watchmen references on the web. I didn’t just want a bibliography or an encyclopedia article, but something in the middle that tracks every reprint of the original series and still offers some interesting insights.

How many of Watchmen’s 10 collected formats do you own? How many of the three cuts of the film have you watched? Have you read any of the Before Watchmen series? Do you know the Charlton Comics character equivalents for all of the characters, including which of them made it into the DC Universe proper after Crisis?

The guide answers all of those questions, and will be the home to Doomsday Clock information as the series progresses across the next twelve months.

New For Patrons: Guide To Justice League

November 12, 2017 by krisis

Today one of the most major DC guides launches directly to Patrons of Crushing Krisis – it’ll be available to the general public in about a week.

Whether the team is titled the The Justice League of America, Justice League International, Justice League Task Force, or just plain old JLA, every incarnation and in-continuity release is covered in this guide from the team’s 1960 debut in the pages of The Brave and the Bold through present day.

Head to Patreon to become a supporter of Crushing Krisis. Chip in as little as $1, or get early access to guides for the price of a single comic or cappuccino every month!
