Crushing Comics S01E072 – X-Men: Supernovas and Uncanny X-Men: The Rise & Fall of the Shi’ar Empire

Today I start out by talking about “the perfect weather.” If you’re the kind of person who loves it super hot on the beach or frigid on the slopes, would you really want to experience that every day? My favorite kind of day is breezy and springlike, maybe 68 to 72 degrees – and I see no problems with waking up to that every day of my life.

After that, I open a massive block of oversize modern X-Men – so big I had to break it up into a pair of episodes. In this one, I start out with a pair of weirdly orphaned oversized volumes.

Tonight is the first of four sessions of Black Panther Book Club to celebrate the release of Marvel’s Black Panther film later this month.

We’ll spend three weeks tackling the first half of the Christopher Priest run that massively influences the movie, then switch gears to read Ta’Nehisi’s Coates’ modern run on the character.

In today’s installment, we meet the Dora Milaje for the first time, learn why T’Challa is on American soil, and see his sovereign rule nearly usurped back in Wakanda!

Since I don’t know too much about the magazine content of the issues reprinted here, I dive in and read a few excerpts.

Crushing Comics S01E068 – Rick Remender’s Fear Agent + The Impermanence of Information

I begin today by musing on the ephemeral nature of the vast amounts of information we publish daily in this digital age. How will the archeologists and historians access all of this data, and what will they think of it?

After those deep thoughts, I unwrap the pair of library editions of Rick Remender’s Fear Agent. My memory of the plot of this modern take on sci-fi pulp is a bit dim, but I share some of the history of the series as related in  and attempt to explain why I don’t love this series.

Episode 68 features Fear Agent Library Edition Volume 1 and Volume 2 from Dark Horse Comics. These editions are about to get very scarce, as Rick Remender has moved the publishing rights for this series back to Image Comics!
