This Week In X

This Week In X: Cable #155 and X-Men Gold #24 (plus, this week’s collected editions)

March 23, 2018 by krisis

It’s the twelfth week of new comics in 2018, and This Week in X has a historically short list of X-Men comics to cover – just two new issues!

This week, I cover:

  • Cable #155, a stunning return-to-form for Cable that seems to fundamentally understand his character (and his relationship with Hope)
  • X-Men: Gold #24, the continuing story of the Gold team trapped in prison while Bobby leads the new main squad.

Learn more about how each of those series reached their current issues and if I recommend picking them up – plus, get the details on the new X-Men Collected Editions out this week, including the queerly-titled X-Men Blue, Vol. 0.

This Week in X: All-New Wolverine #32, Astonishing X-Men #9, New Mutants – Dead Souls #1, Old Man Logan #36, Weapon X #15, & X-Men Blue #23

It’s the eleventh week of new comics in 2018, and This Week in X has six new titles to review – so many that I mistakenly omitted one the first time I edited this video. I’ve never had to count as high as six before!

This week, I cover:

  • All-New Wolverine #32, a pleasant (if pandering) one-shot epilogue to “Orphans of X”
  • Astonishing X-Men #9, a dull middle chapter that does a lot of telling rather than showing
  • New Mutants – Dead Souls #1, a solid hit for lovers of every era of New Mutants
  • Old Man Logan #36, which flirts with some heavy themes before turning into a MacGuffin hunt
  • Weapon X #15, a surprisingly satisfying (and unsurprisingly bloody) tussle
  • X-Men Blue #23, far and away the best issue of this series and a return to form for Cullen Bunn

Learn more about how each of those series reached their current issues and hear which ones I’d recommend picking up.

This Week In X: Iceman #11, Rogue & Gambit #3, Venom #163, X-Men Gold #23, & X-Men Red #2

March 9, 2018 by krisis

It’s the tenth week of new comics in 2018, and This Week in X is packed with X-Men titles, including all three of the current X-Men teams … but I wasn’t too thrilled with the selection!

This week, I cover:

  • Iceman (2017) #11 is a pleasing summation to this series, rather than just a conclusion.
  • Rogue & Gambit (2018) #3 trades heavily on a continuity-obsessed love of the couple.
  • Venom (2017) #163 starring X-Men Blue is the final issue of the Poison X arc.
  • X-Men: Gold (2017) #23 has an interesting premise in need of defined character voices.
  • X-Men: Red (2018) #2 somewhat squanders the good will of the first issue.

Learn more about how each of those series reached their current issues and hear which ones I’d recommend picking up.

This Week In X: All-New Wolverine, Legion, & X-Men Blue

March 2, 2018 by krisis

It’s the ninth week of new comics in 2018, and This Week in X we have an unusually light week of X-Men. There are just three new titles and three collections to cover, although one of those collections is a really big deal to me!

  • All-New Wolverine (2016) #31 is a fun-filled one-off team-up of Honey Badger and Deadpool.
  • Legion (2018) #2 is a comic book that does not star Legion nor appeal to his fans from any medium.
  • X-Men: Blue (2017) #22 finds some character moments in this symbiote space saga, but skimps on details.

Learn more about how each of those series reached their current issues and hear which ones I’d recommend picking up. Plus, learn what new X-collections are out this week, including Legion – Son of X, New Mutants, and Weapon X!

This Week In X: Cable #154, Old Man Logan #35, Weapon X #14, & X-Men: Blue #21

February 16, 2018 by krisis

It’s the seventh week of new comics in 2018, and This Week in X brings the end of three arcs and the next chapter of a crossover.

Cable #154 ends the bad math of a time traveling Externals arc and the end of Ed Brisson’s run, but Brisson continues after the end of a strong Scarlet Samurai story in Old Man Logan #35.

Weapon X #14 ends it’s Nuke arc, which was maybe about Warpath all along?

Finally, X-Men Blue #21 brings us the second chapter of “Poison-X,” a deep space team-up with Eddie Brock as Venom by Cullen Bunn.

Plus, a must-buy collected edition: the New Mutants by Zeb Wells Complete Collection!
