X-Men Omnibus Mapping for the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot

April 2, 2024 by krisis

Until April 5, I’ll be loosely mapping missing and most-wanted Marvel omnibus volumes every day! It’s finally time, y’all… time to MAP MY X. This post offers maps for flagship X-Men series – books with “X-Men” in the title! Then, in the following posts I’ll look at other X-Team titles and solo characters.

Announcing Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot LIVE on Near Mint Condition

This post explains titles and potential X-Men Omnibus Mapping for entries on the Tigereyes Most Wanted Marvel Omnibus 12th Annual Secret Ballot. You can vote right now (until 5 April 2024 @ midnight US ET) or watch our mega-length announcement stream reviewing every single voting option.

For this post, it’s important you understand that I don’t think all of these books are a good idea! Some of them were votes on past polls or popular comments from Near Mint Condition viewers.

Also, many of these maps are not even my idea. As Marvel has progressively (and recently) recollected 90s and 00s X-Men in paperback, they have clearly shown their plans on how they group this material. If Marvel told me how to map something, that’s the map I used! Our fanciful mappings of years past are less relevant than ever.

With those disclaimers out of the way: Are you ready to see all of the omnibuses we’d need to collect every issue of every book with “X-Men” in the title from 1963 to 2023 – as well as collecting every major run of the Age of Krakoa? Strap in, folks – it’s gonna be a long post!

If you’re not sure of what to vote for, stick around for my explanations. Or, if you’ve already voted, learn why the team behind the poll decided on these books and titles – including some of my mistakes and regrets as one of the editors of the options on the final poll.

Or… just find some great comics to read!

Remember: These mappings are just my suggestion of how Marvel could assemble these books. They are meant to help you decide on your votes and build your personal reading list, but your vote on the poll is NOT an endorsement of my specific map. It’s a vote in favor of Marvel creating a book with that title or covering that period.

Over-the-top comics posts like this one are made possible via the support of Patrons of Crushing Krisis. For less than the cost of a single comic issue a month you can fuel my in-depth comics coverage, plus gain access to dozens of exclusive collecting guides & reading orders – including all of the Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics.

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Marvel Comics – April 3 2024

March 28, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 14th new comic book day of the new year! This post covers Marvel Comics April 3 2024 releases. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics March 27 2024 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: new (and old) Deadpool, a hunk of Spider-Man 2099, the earliest X-Men Epic, Avengers join the Fall of X, She-Hulk’s space date, Thor fights his stories, the continuing trial of Lando, and more!

This list includes every comic and digital comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. For each new release, I’ll point you to the right guide within my Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics to find out how to collect each character in full – and, if a guide is linked from this post, that means it is updated through the present day!

Marvel Comics April 3 2024 Collected EditionsDaredevil Epic Collection Vol. 7 - The Concrete Jungle, released by Marvel Comics April 3 2024

Alien by Shalvey & Broccardo Vol. 2: Descendant (2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302952303 / digital)
See Guide to Aliens comics. This collects a second Declan Shalvey Alien mini-series, which is a direct sequel to his first earlier in 2023. You don’t have to read the first series to understand this one, but if you don’t it comes off as a very plain “person uses xenomorphs to get revenge” story. Even read together, for me this isn’t must-read Alien material.

Daredevil Epic Collection Vol. 7: The Concrete Jungle
(2024 paperback, ISBN ? 978-1302955175 / digital)
See Guide to Daredevil. This is the second of two Epic Collections bridging the gap between the Black Widow / San Francisco period of this title and the start of Frank Miller’s run, which will occur a few issues into the next collection.

Deadpool: Badder Blood
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302911232 / digital)
See Guide to Deadpool. This is a continuity-lite (if at all) sequel to Liefeld’s execrable 2023 OGN.

Deadpool: The Saga of Wade Wilson
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302958121 / digital)
See Guide to Deadpool. This is actually a solid primer on 90s-style Deadpool, collecting some key issues of his original 1997 series.

Ghost Rider Omnibus by Jason Aaron
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302957599 / digital)
See Guide to Ghost Rider. I am truly shocked to see this slim, partial collection of Ghost Rider (2006) reprinted verbatim after 14 years. It would have been so easy for Marvel to re-issue this book also containing the first 19 issues of this run, written by Daniel Way. If there was enough demand for an Aaron omnibus, certainly there was equally as much demand for an omnibus twice the length by the both authors.

Spider-Man 2099 Omnibus Vol. 2
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302953836 / digital)
See Guide to Spider-Man 2099. This is a Volume 2 you can pick up and read all on its own! It collects Peter David’s mid-2010s return to Spider-Man 2099, which saw him adventuring both in the present day and back in his future. This is a substantial and self-contained run that is a perfect read for you if you enjoyed Miguel O’Hara in the Spider-Verse movie and want to know more. X-Men: From The Ashes – The Definitive Collecting Guide & Reading Order

Updated May 8, 2025! The definitive, chronological, and up-to-date guide on collecting X-Men: From the Ashes, including X-Men flagship titles by Gail Simone, Jed McKay, Eve Ewing, and more in comic books via omnibuses, hardcovers, and trade paperback graphic novels. A part of Crushing Krisis’s Crushing Comics. Last updated May 2025 with titles scheduled for release through January 2026.

X-Men: From the Ashes - Ryan Stegman teaserIn March 2024 Marvel Comics answered the question of how the X-Men line will move on from The Age of Krakoa with the announcement of X-Men: From the Ashes.

Editor Tom Brevoort introduced the From the Ashes era by saying, “The X-Men are fractured in the aftermath of the end of Krakoa, scattered across the globe without a central base of operation. What that means in practice is that all three titles carrying the name X-MEN are core X-MEN series—they all center around one of the major aspects of what the team has been about at different points. This is very much by design. We want to field a wide assortment of X-titles with different styles and tones and approaches, an X-MEN book for virtually any taste.”

This new era of X-Men comics launched in July 2024 with three co-flagship books all with “X-Men” in the title, as well as three further team books (NYX, X-Factor, X-Force) and three solo titles (Phoenix, Storm, Wolverine). Those nine books quickly expanded with a trio of mini-series (Dazzler, Mystique, Sentinels) and a second wave of solo book announcements (Laura Kinney – Wolverine, Psylocke, Magik).

This era is marked by a “play the hits” approach to X-Men that gets them back to being hated and feared and eschews as much of the complex character work and morally gray approach of Krakoa as possible. The line is almost universally designed to call back to existing runs and concepts, with only Storm offering a truly original vision out of the initial 12 comics in the line. In particular, NYX is particular reverent of developments from Krakoa.

This guide will be regularly updated as issues are released and new titles are announced.

Debating our Evergreen X-Men Omnibus List – LIVE on Near Mint Condition

March 21, 2024 by krisis

Are you ready to rumble? Today, I’m live with Near Mint Condition to share my Evergreen X-Men Omnibus List – that means the X-Men books should never go out of print!

Omar of Near Mint Condition, Jess the Omnidog, Lars of Mad Norwegian Press, cosplayer and X-Men mega-fan Ødfel, GLAAD-Award Winning author Joe Glass, and more distinguished panelists will share their lists, too… and then we’ll fight tooth and nail over our officially endorsed Evergreen X-Men Omnibus List of 10 books. Plus, viewers on the live stream will get to have their say to correct our mistakes!

It’s the show that is half serious recommendations, half a cut-throat game show of all of us trying to block other people’s recommendations so that all of our own make the list. Will we allow Omar to get Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 on the Evergreen X-Men Omnibus List, or will we blockade him with votes for Phoenix Vol. 1? Will side books like X-Factor and X-Force make the cut, or will we just stick to Uncanny X-Men and X-Men? And, what about Wolverine!?

Tune in to Near Mint Condition on YouTube to find out!

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Marvel Comics – March 27 2024

March 21, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 13th new comic book day of the new year! This post covers Marvel Comics March 27 2024 releases. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics March 20 2024 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: Inferno Masterworks, Wonder Man’s modern saga, Daredevil’s theological deep-dive, a new Black Cat & MJ team-up, an official X-Men ’97 tie-in, and more!

Marvel Comics March 27 2024 Collected Editions

Daredevil by Brubaker & Lark Omnibus Vol. 2, a reprint released by Marvel Comics March 27 2024

Daredevil By Ed Brubaker & Michael Lark Omnibus Vol. 2 HC 2024 Printing
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302957575 / digital)
See Guide to Daredevil. This book completes the four-omnibus run of relatively-grounded Daredevil before things get fanciful in Andy Diggle’s Shadowland run. Yet, the seeds of that run are planted here, as Matt descends to perhaps his darkest point to date. I really enjoy this run better than Bendis’s, personally.

Ghost Rider Vol. 4: Rite of Passage
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302952358 / digital)
See Guide to Ghost Rider. This is the last of Benjamin Percy’s 2022 ongoing, though he is rolling into a new series called “Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance” with a new rider.

Immortal X-Men by Kieron Gillen Vol. 4
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302953423 / digital)
See Guide to X-Men – The Age of Krakoa. I wish I could tell you this was an all-time great finish to Gillen’s spectacular run on Immortal X-Men, but it ends in a bit of a fizzle. Gillen is deep into his “plots within plots within plots” bullshit, which can be satisfying when it pays off.

Unfortunately, none of it pays off here, because he’s playing for time prior to the Fall of X mini-series that will wrap up this era. Definitely read this if you’ve been reading all along – or, take this opportunity to start Immortal X-Men (2022) from the beginning to catch up with the Fall of Krakoa.

Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale: Hulk Gallery Edition
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302953072 / digital)
See Guide to Hulk – Bruce Banner. This is one of the famous “Color Books” by Loeb & Sale (which Marvel tried to call “Marvel Spectrum,” though it never particularly caught on), which interweaves an origin-era story with present day framing material. Sale’s art will always be eye-catching, and though this story is simplistic it brings a certain emotionality to Hulk that’s different than the original Lee comics.
