Every Missing Superman Omnibus, Mapped | 2025 Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus Poll

May 21, 2025 by krisis Leave a Comment

Most Wanted DC Omnibus - Superman Omnibus MappingIt’s time to map the DC Universe! In June, I’ll be joining with Near Mint Condition to launch the Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus 2nd Annual Poll! This post explains every Superman omnibus – all of which will appear as options on the 2025 poll.

Through the end of May I’ll be covering DC entire publishing history by mapping missing omnibus volumes to fill in every gap in your DC oversize shelf! That’s all leading to the kickoff of the Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus 2nd Annual Poll on Near Mint Condition the first week of June.

Superman has an interesting history in omnibus. Prior to 2020, DC was hyper-focused on collecting his Golden age run – and the only other omnibus was Death and Return of Superman! Then, in the 2020s, DC got slightly more adventurous – but not much. They hit a few major modern runs, but Superman still had barely any coverage in omnibus.

Finally, with a potential hit movie on the horizon, in the past two years DC has gotten series about collecting Superman! Not only have they finally cracked into the much-demanded Triangle Era, but they’re also getting more aggressive about his post-Flashpoint material.

Even with leaps and bounds of improvement in DC’s release schedule, the potential for future Superman omnibuses continues to be a wide-open field. Your votes could meaningfully point DC into the right direction for their 2026 and 2027 slates of books.

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: DC Comics – January 8 2025

January 3, 2025 by krisis

Next week is the 2nd new comic book day of 2025! This post covers DC Comics January 8 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering DC Comics January 1 2025 new releases.

This week in DC Comics: A shocking Aquaman collection, a hunk of Ellis Stormwatch, a new superstar run on Action Comics, creepy Dark Patterns for Batman, a Fractured Spectrum of Lanterns, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Batman: Dark Patterns (2024) #2! I cannot get the first issue of this Dan Watters & Hayden Sherman comic out of my head. Sherman’s page layouts were mind-blowing, as was the final page twist in both art and story. More about why I’m so excited below.

This post includes every comic out from DC this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and review every in-continuity series with a new issue out this week. Plus, for most new releases, I’ll point you to a personally-curated guide within the Crushing Comics Guide to DC Comics to find out how to collect that title in full! There’s no other website on the internet that can claim that.

And now, onto DC Comics January 8 2025 new releases!

DC Comics January 8 2025 Collected EditionsDC Finest - Aquaman: King of Atlantis, a DC Comics January 8 2025 new release

The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries Vol. 5
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1779528582 / digital)
Collects The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries (2024) #1-6. These stories are more or less standalone, so you don’t have to worry about picking up Volumes 1-4.

Birds of Prey Vol. 2: Worlds Without End
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1779528575 / digital)
See Guides to Birds of Prey. This is very much the epic conclusion to the set-up in Volume 1, so I would not recommend starting here! This is easily one of the most-binge-able books of the past year full of action, humor, and tremendous colors from Jordie Bellaire. You can read more of my thoughts on the run in last week’s DC New Releases post.

DC Finest – Aquaman: King of Atlantis (DC Finest, Silver Age Vol. 1)
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1779529893 / digital TBA)
See Guide to Aquaman. This is the most interesting DC Finest volume yet! Not only does it collect material in color for the first time, but it does something I don’t think anyone would have predicted!

Generally, DC has always treated Adventure Comics (1938) #260 from May 1959 as the beginning of Silver Age stories for Aquaman and their collections have reflected that. An old Showcase collection starts there. Issue #260 is collected with “origins” collections and Aquaman’s anniversary collections.

Yet, this book reaches back to begin with Adventure Comics (1938) #229-259, which began in October 1956 – the same month Barry Allen debuted as Flash in Showcase (1956) #4.

Generally, the beginning of the Silver Age at DC Comics isn’t treated as something that happened all at once. Flash got things started in an obvious way because he was a brand new character (as was Hal Jordan as Green Lantern), but the start of the Silver Age for the Trinity and Aquaman tends to have more to do with when their origins were redefined to their definitive Earth-1 pre-Crisis versions.

As DC Silver Age collections go, this is a pretty wild development! All of the other various breakpoints between Golden, Silver, Bronze, and Post-Crisis ages are well-defined down to the issue. I had to change elements of my guide to reflect this new break point.

I am SO EXCITED to own and read this material in color!!! This is one of the books that nudged me over the line to start picking up DC Finest Collections despite having a relatively slim collection of physical DC Comics outside of Wonder Woman. New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Marvel Comics – June 12 2024

June 7, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 24th new comic book day of the new year! This post covers Marvel Comics June 12 2024 releases. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics June 5 2024 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: a septet of Blood Hunt issues, complete Thompson Black Widow, a Thorless Thor Epic, Krakoa’s apocalyptic epilogue, Orlando’s Scarlet Witch perseveres, the end of Hickman & Schiti’s GODS, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Scarlet Witch (2024) #1 (of 4)! Steve Orlando has been writing what might be his best comic ever with this run, and all of his art teams have been top notch. I have my fingers crossed this will get upgraded to an ongoing stories.

This list includes every comic and digital comic out from Marvel this week, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. I recap and review every new single issue. Plus, for every new release, I’ll point you to the right guide within my Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics to find out how to collect each character in full – and, if a guide is linked from this post, that means it is updated through the present day!

Marvel Comics June 12 2024 Collected EditionsBlack Widow (2020) by Kelly Thompson, a Marvel Comics June 12 2024 new release

Black Widow by Kelly Thompson
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302952662 / digital)
See Guide to Black Widow. This Eisner-Winning series from Kelly Thompson, Elena Casagrande, Jordie Bellaire, & Cory Petit is easily the best start-to-finish single read for any fan of Black Widow. It starts out by putting Natasha in a uniquely uncomfortable place and ends with her leading an unlikely team of deadly misfits.

This series looks great from start to finish and tells one big and and incredibly satisfying story that actually reads better as a binge than it did in single issues. Highly recommended!

PS: Don’t be put off by the awful cover of this collection; the interiors look nothing like this!

The Incredible Hulk Vol. 2: War Devils
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1302954178 / digital)
See Guide to Hulk – Bruce Banner. I think this second collection is a great place to start with Phillip J. Kennedy, Nic Klein & Danny Earls, Matthew Wilson, & Cory Petit is a fine place to begin. While I found the initial Ghost Rider story in this collection to be on the marginal side, I loved the follow-up New Orleans story.

This run leans into Hulk as one of the few weapons against the biggest horrors of the Marvel Universe, and I think that works best in 2-3 issue jaunts rather than longer arcs. It’s also a book full of page after page of stunning artwork, with a carefully curated color palette from Wilson that makes Hulk’s green really pop off the page.

Marvel Masterworks: The Avengers Vol. 2
(2024 “Remasterworks” hardcover, ISBN 978-1302951405)
See Guide to Avengers (1963 – 1996). This Masterworks collects the first true peak of early Avengers by Stan Lee, as we get the second year of their adventures together – including the iconic line-up change in issue #16!

This is a “Remasterworks” edition, meaning the linework is even more-restored than the original Masterworks edition. That restoration will be largely invisible to all but the most discerning of eyes, but if you want a prestige-format bookshelf of early Avengers comics then this is even more of a must-buy than it was before.

The Mighty Thor by Walter Simonson Omnibus
(2024 oversize hardcover, ISBN 978-1302957612 / digital)
See Guide to Thor – The Odinson. This massive brick of an omnibus continues Walt Simonson’s entire multi-year epic both writing and pencilling Thor, all with modern recolors from the 10s.

I thought the modern colors were instantly dated and they haven’t aged particularly well. However, this is the only way to pick up all of Simonson’s run easily aside from a long-since-out-of-print set of trade paperbacks. And, colors aside, this run is about as classic as you can get – it’s one of the major pillars of 80s superhero comics alongside Claremont’s Uncanny X-Men and Wolfman & Pérez’s Titans.

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: DC Comics – May 22 2024

May 19, 2024 by krisis

It’s the 21st new comic book day of the new year! This post covers DC Comics May 22 2024 releases, which actually hit comic stores on Tuesday May 21 2024. Missed last week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering DC Comics May 15 2024 new releases.

(DC is still releasing their comics on Tuesday until the start of July, but I think most folks think of Wednesday as release day, so that’s how I’m labelling my posts until then.)

This week in DC Comics: Waid’s World’s Finest, oversize Fables, House of Brainiac continues, JL vs Godzilla vs Kong concludes, Taylor’s final Nightwing arc begins, Joker’s best friend, Constantine’s road trip continues, many WebToons in physical format, and more!

This list includes every comic and digital comic out from DC this week, plus collected editions including omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats. I recap and review every new single issue. Plus, for every new release, I’ll point you to the right guide within my Crushing Comics Guide to DC Comics to find out how to collect each character in full – and, if a guide is linked from this post, that means it is updated through the present day!

DC Comics May 22 2024 Collected EditionsBatman: Wayne Family Adventures (2021) Vol. 4, a DC Comics May 22 2024 new release

Barkham Asylum
(2024 digest-size paperback, ISBN 978-1779505002 / digital)
This is a non-continuity OGN aimed at 8-12 year-old readers about Joker’s dog Jester being locked up in the pet equivalent of Arkham Asylum. Can this bad dog find a good streak, or is he doomed to heed the call of his villainous master? It sounds silly but super-cute! I might try to get it from the library for Kid Krisis.

Batman: Wayne Family Adventures Vol. 4
(2024 paperback, ISBN 978-1779526915)
Speaking of non-continuity Batman adventures, this volume continues to collect the hit non-continuity WebToon about the extended BatFamily. Y’all know it is an enduring mystery to me why anyone reads non-continuity stories, but I hear from many friends that this is a fun book!

Perhaps the popularity of this run is a part of why every single one of DC’s major heroes are currently leading their own families of characters of every age, gender, and sexual orientation (which is a big part of what I love about DC right now).

DC Pride: Love and Justice
(2024 hardcover, ISBN 978-1779525918 / digital)
This anthology of anthologies claims to collect all of DC Pride (2021) #1, plus selected (or all?) stories (presumably all from LGBTQA* characters) from Mysteries of Love in Space (2019) #1, New Year’s Evil (2019) #1, and Young Monsters in Love (2018) #1.

The real mystery in space is trying to figure how how and where DC collects all of these stories from single issue anthologies into collections, often years after the fact!

Batman: Black Mirror The Deluxe Edition
(2024 deluxe hardcover, ISBN 978-1779525895 / digital)
A brand new deluxe hardcover of Scott Snyder’s first major foray into Batman from just prior to Pre-Flashpoint with artists Jock and Francesco Francavilla, which is certainly a factor in what landed him his iconic New 52 Batman run! Superman Omnibus Mapping for the Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus 1st Annual Poll

May 7, 2024 by krisis

Most Wanted DC Omnibus - Superman Omnibus MappingMapping continues, my friends! From now until May 19, I’ll be loosely mapping missing and most-wanted DC omnibus volumes every day! Then, on the 19th, I’ll be joining with Near Mint Condition to launch the first annual Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus Annual Poll! This post covers every missing solo Superman omnibus, from the Golden Age to the present day.

This post explains potential Superman Omnibus Mapping for votes on the Tigereyes Most Wanted DC Omnibus 1st Annual Secret Ballot. I’m posting all of these maps before the poll begins to give people the time to consider their favorites, correct our mapping mistakes, and catch books I might have missed.

Why move on to Superman? Because I’ve just covered the vast majority of his comics in four guides over the past few months, so he’s fresh in my brain! Right now, Patrons of CK have access to Guide to Action Comics (Pre-Crisis, 1938-1986), Guide to Action Comics (Post-Crisis, 1987 – Present), Guide to Superman (Pre-Crisis, (1939 – 1986), and Guide to Superman (Post-Crisis, 1987 – Present).

If you don’t know DC well enough to know what to vote for, stick around for my explanations! Learn why the team behind the poll decided on these books and titles – including giving us feedback if we missed the mark.

If voting is now open, you can use this as your crib sheet! Or… just find some great comics to read!

Remember: These mappings are just my suggestion of how DC could assemble these books. They are meant to help you decide on your votes and build your personal reading list, but your vote on the poll is NOT an endorsement of my specific map. It’s a vote in favor of DC creating a book with that title or covering that period.

High-effort, heavily-researched, over-the-top comics posts like this one are made possible via the support of Patrons of Crushing Krisis. For less than the cost of a single comic issue a month you can fuel my in-depth comics coverage, plus gain access to dozens of exclusive collecting guides & reading orders – including all of the Crushing Comics Guide to DC Comics.
