Phoenix (2024) #7, a Marvel Comics January 22 2025 new release

Next week is the 4th new comic book day of 2025! This post covers Marvel Comics January 22 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics January 15 2025 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: Ultimate Spider-Man Year Two, Battle of Jakku ends, Wanda vs Not The Bore Worms, Akihiro rides again, Books of Doom are back, a Strange Masterworks milestone, Ultraman x Avengers wraps, Phoenix vs Thanos, Herald Rogue, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Phoenix (2024) #7! I think this series has been getting better with every issues, and the past two have delivered exactly what I want from a cosmic Jean Grey series. With Phoenix on a collision course with Thanos, this is developing into one of the biggest Jean stories of all time and I am here for it.

This post includes every comic out from Marvel Comics January 22 2025, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats.

This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and review every series with a new issue out this week. Plus, for every new release, I’ll point you to a personally-curated guide within the Crushing Comics Guide to Marvel Comics to find out how to collect that title in full!

Crushing Comics LIVE: January 8 2025 Pull List + What’s Wrong with the X-Men?

January 12, 2025 by krisis

Crushing Comics Live - The Pull List of comic book new releases from January 8 2025Crushing Comics is back on my own YouTube channel for the first time in nearly five years!

After a test-run last week, today I launched the first episode of my new weekly live stream show, The Pull List – where I’ll discuss every new comic out on the American direct market and review as many of them as I have time to read! Can I review each one in 60 seconds or less? There’s an an screen countdown so you can watch me race the clock to give you my thoughts on each issue.

This week on The Pull List, I read 37 comics from my January 8 2025 pull list, but on the show I cover every issue out on the American direct market this week. You can check out my full posts previewing new releases from Marvel, DC, and Image, but on the show I also talk about comics from Dark Horse, IDW, Boom, Mad Cave, and many more!

Plus: A “Moment of Krisis” monologue about what is wrong with X-Men’s From the Ashes era, my Top 10 comics of 2025 so far, a scroll through my new Patrons-Only Guide to Red Hulk, an AMA with the chat, and the first live music from me in years with a performance of my song “Better.” [Read more…] about Crushing Comics LIVE: January 8 2025 Pull List + What’s Wrong with the X-Men?

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: Image Comics – January 15 2025

The Moon Is Following Us (2024) #5, an Image Comics January 15 2025 new release

Next week is the 3rd new comic book day of 2025! This post covers Image Comics January 15 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Image Comics January 8 2025 new releases.

This week in Image Comics: A hunk of Hack/Slash, Witchblade relaunched and collected, the Serpentor War, Sam & Twitch in hardcover, a Nights climax, a war across the dream realm, and more!

These posts will give me a chance to re-orient myself to what’s going on with Image after a few years away from reading any of their books!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: The Moon Is Following Us (2024) #5! I feel like the past two issues of this Johnson/Rossmo/Spicer jam got a little repetitive, so I’m hoping for some big revelations in this one. Plus, I’m utterly addicted to Mike Spicer’s colors!

This post includes every comic out from Image Comics this week, plus collected editions. This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and comment on every series with a new issue out this week to help you figure out if they’re for you.

Plus, for some long-running series, I’ll point you to a personally-curated guide within the Crushing Comics Guide to Indie Comics to find out how to collect that title in full!

New Comics & Collected Editions Releases: DC Comics – January 15 2025

January 10, 2025 by krisis

Next week is the 3rd new comic book day of 2025! This post covers DC Comics January 15 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering DC Comics January 8 2025 new releases.

The New Gods (2024) #2, a DC Comics January 15 2024 new releaseThis week in DC Comics: Finest Supergirl, Millar’s Swamp Thing, Ridey’s Superstar Action, Grønbekk’s perfectly terse Catwoman, V & Cagle stun on New Gods, hunting The Question, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: THIS IS AN IMPOSSIBLE TASK. Seriously, at least five issues out from DC this week could be my pick of the whole month, as you will see based on my comments below. But, under extreme self-imposed duress, I’ll go with The New Gods (2024) #2. I’m trying not to overhype myself for where Ram V is taking the plot, but it’s impossible to hype myself up too much for more of Evan Cagle’s art colored by Francesco Segala.

This post includes every comic out from DC Comics January 15 2025, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats.

This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and review every in-continuity series with a new issue out this week. Plus, for most new releases, I’ll point you to a personally-curated guide within the Crushing Comics Guide to DC Comics to find out how to collect that title in full!

DC Comics January 15 2025 Collected Editions

Blue Beetle Vol. 2: Forever Blue
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1779528599 / digital)
This collects Blue Beetle (2023) #7-11 to wrap up the series.

I went into this book with a lot of good will for a character who was new to me, but the storytelling never really cohered with the art. It was clear the book was a continuation of a prior run, with characters and plot and it assumed you’d already be familiar with them. But, you ought to be able to jump into any comic at a midway point and with this one I just never could get the hang of it.

If you want to read Blue Beetle, you should skip backwards to Blue Beetle: Graduation Day (2022) as a starting place.

DC Finest: Supergirl – The Girl of Steel (Supergirl Vol. 1)
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1779529909)
Supergirl makes her debut in the new DC Finest line of thick paperbacks that are roughly equivalent to Marvel Epic Collections (but a bit longer). This is the debut of Supergirl, starting from her 1959 Silver Age debut and collecting past the end of her first black-and-white Showcase collection (and a wider range of material than her Silver Age Omnibus, though that stretched a bit further into Action).

It includes Supergirl stories from Action Comics (1938) #252-288, Adventure Comics (1938) #278, Superman (1939) #139-140 & 144, Superboy (1949) #80, Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane #14 & 20, and Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen (1954) #40, 46, 51, & 57. Storm (2024) #4, a Marvel Comics January 15 2025 new release

Next week is the 3rd new comic book day of 2025! This post covers Marvel Comics January 15 2025 new releases. Missed this week’s releases? Check out last week’s post covering Marvel Comics January 8 2025 new releases.

This week in Marvel Comics: Blade Epics hit the 90s, the Road to Onslaught re-collected, Aliens in Paradise, the Deadly Phil Coulson, an Asgardian jam, Rogue in the Savage Land, Storm vs. Doom, Ultimate Wolverine debuts, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Storm (2024) #4! With more issues, I think this series could have easily been my favorite comic of 2024. Murewa Ayodele is walking a tightrope of plot that could result in a major fall, but it feels like his balance just gets better with every issue. Having Lucas Werneck along for art helps! See below for more thoughts on this excellent solo run.

This post includes every comic out from Marvel Comics January 15 2025, plus collected editions in omnibus, hardcover, paperback, and digest-sized formats.

This isn’t the typical comic releases post you can find on other sites. Why? I explain each collection and review every series with a new issue out this week. Marvel Comics January 15 2025 Collected Editions

Blade Epic Collection Vol. 2: Nightstalkers
(2025 paperback, ISBN 978-1302956547 / digital)
See Guide to Blade. The Blade Epic Collection line starts with a bang by picking him up in the 90s, recollecting Tomb of Dracula (1991) #1-4 and pressing onward to Nightstalkers (1992) #1-6. Issues #2-5 are collected here in color for the first time!

That also hints that a first Epic Collection will wind up being a slimmed down version of the Blade: The Early Years omnibus that ends on Marvel Comics Presents (1988) #64, which makes sense since it collects a heck of a lot of Tomb of Dracula (1972).

Marvel Masterworks: Ka-Zar Vol. 4
(2025 hardcover, ISBN 978-1302955601 / digital)
Damnit, I really need a Ka-Zar guide! Marvel presses on with an unexpected fourth volume of this Masterworks line that collects Ka-Zar (1974) #10-20, [Uncanny] X-Men (1963) #115-116; and material from Rampaging Hulk (1977) #9 and Marvel Fanfare (1982) #56-59.

I was truly puzzled that this is leap-frogging Ka-Zar’s entire 1981 series to pick up the later Shanna The She-Devil story from the end of Marvel Fanfare until I realized that story is told in flashback and fits here – not only in continuity, but in when Steve Gerber originally wrote the script!

That makes this an incredibly rare Masterwork that skips ahead for later material, alongside Ms. Marvel Vol. 2 (which picks up Chris Claremont’s unfinished Ms. Marvel (1977) issues that were burned off as anthology stories over a decade later).
