This week in Image Comics: Astro City completed (for now), Criminal reprints, more of Gunslinger’s origins, Cobra Commander vs. Destro, Christmas comes to Hyde Street, a return to Oz, a Savage Dragon celebration, a new branch of Tynion’s W0rldtr33, and more!

These posts will give me a chance to re-orient myself to what’s going on with Image after a few years away from reading any of their books!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: This was a close one for me with such a kick-ass issue of G.I. Joe out this week, but my pick goes to W0rldtr33 (2023) #12, kicking off a third arc of the James Tynion IV ongoing title that feels like a sequel to his indie “viral trilogy” that initially turned me on to his scary creator-owned work. More on this book below!

This week in DC Comics: Grell’s Finest Green Arrow, Round 4 of Absolute Diana vs. Death Kaiju, Batman’s eternal youth, Flash family fun, Harley Quinn’s destructive agency, Ewing yucks it up on Metamorpho, Unlimited Justice League members, Doomsday for Superwoman, and more!

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Once again, DC is presenting me with a nearly impossible choice! Catwoman, Detective, Harley Quinn, Justice League, and Superman have all been superlative comics in the past few months. However, I think the cliffhanger in the last issue of makes me most eager to read Green Arrow (2023) #20!

See Guide to Green Arrow. Ollie enters the DC Finest line with what is truly his finest story, Mike Grell’s “The Longbow Hunters” mini-series and then the start of Grell’s length run on Arrow’s ongoing series. This is one of my favorite DC comics runs of all time and I think the writing, the pacing, and the artwork absolutely hold up in the modern day.

The Krisis Pick of the Week: Phoenix (2024) #7! I think this series has been getting better with every issues, and the past two have delivered exactly what I want from a cosmic Jean Grey series. With Phoenix on a collision course with Thanos, this is developing into one of the biggest Jean stories of all time and I am here for it.

Crushing Comics LIVE: January 8 2025 Pull List + What’s Wrong with the X-Men?
